I don't get people calling this a terrible return.

This is completely in line with what players like this go for at this point in their development/contract status. Anybody expecting more than a late 2nd or a 3rd wasn't living in reality.

He is arbitration eligible, which was likely a key factor in limiting his market. Teams aren't going to want to give up major assets, have him do fine but not great, and then have to decide whether to risk qualifying him where he could get a high arbitration ruling that is above his actual market value but below the 4.74M walk away number.
If you're trading for him, you're likely auditioning to determine if you want to give him his UFA contract. I predict like a 3-4 year deal from Seattle.

I'm a big fan of Kakko and the potential of him turning into a real effective middle six player, but I have a really hard time seeing where he falls into their roster now and long-term. They've been a revolving door for 'mid' forwards their entire existence.
1/2 Seattle fwd roster will be gone in 2 years as they phase out the original team players left

This is what you get for leading the team in +/- at only $2.1M a year while Mika and CK suck shit at -500 for 8 million cap hits.

How dare he challenge the Culture of the NYR where one truth remains eternal: old, past their prime vets shall be signed to exorbitant contracts for bowing out in the first round and setting up nice retirements.

As an NYR fan,

f*** THIS TEAM
f*** DRURY
f*** LAVI
AND MOST OF ALL

f*** JAMES DOLAN TO HELL

+/- lol

Kakko's out of the league once he turns UFA. doesn't hit, blocks zero shots, no takeaways, doesn't shoot, doesn't kill penalties, doesn't score points. such an empty hockey player

You can acknowledge Krappo isn’t that good

But

This more has to do with just insane asset management from NY and targeting a player who is barely a 7th defenceman on a non-playoff team and these picks.

Borgen has rebound potential. Value sounds about right for a 2nd Overall bust that will be overpaid by an arbitrator.
