He would have actually had a breakaway. Strome waited too long so he had to slow down to stay onside.I wonder if we would have gotten a great breakaway goal if Strome didn't wait till the last possible second to pass to him.
The numbers might not point to it but Kaapo is a much better player this year. At times he’s been snakebit and at other times taking too long or being hesitant on taking a shot but often he looks awesome. His 200’ game has improved tremendously. I expect things are going to break for him. It might not be this year but he’s eventually going to get it and those numbers are going to be there and we won’t have just this one way offensive player we’re going to have a complete player.
I see Kakko more as a guy who scores/contributes to an important goal and thrives in big games, rather than a guy who is putting up points every night.
Similar to Alex Tuch last year for Vegas in the playoffs or Burakovsky when the Caps won the cup. Team has bigger stars but these players are able to pull off star-esque stuff leaving others cursing how you can have a player like that in your secondary scoring arsenal.
Of course i'll be happy if he starts producing on a consistent basis, but i don't think that's got to be a requirement for him to be a good player. Got to be patient with him though, when he's at his physical peak and has more confidence in his abilities and what he can do, we can see a significant jump pretty much happen over night.
Eh at 2 overall I hope for a guy with more consistency than that.
Sure that's understandable. I don't have ties to NYR though so i don't really care where he was drafted.
In the cap era i don't remember us producing a single player with power moves that turn into players who can play a scoring role in the NHL.. so if he's just a 2nd liner im cool with that.
Even in the old days we just had Tikkanen who was more of a pest guy with skill and took shutdown duties. In the early 2000's before the cap Tuomo Ruutu was supposed to be something of a skilled pwf but puck protection wasn't really a big strength so he turned more into a hard worker who can provide secondary scoring. In the cap era Joel Armia was seen as a potential candidate but he's more of a skill guy who developed into a 2-way forward than a pwf.
It feels like all of our power guys have only made a good career in Europe.
I mean, I don't know if I buy the country he's from being that correlated to his ceiling.
Nice attempt at a good post.nice shootout attempt for 2nd overall pick
Eh, not really thoughNice attempt at a good post.
Eh, not really though
I just don't feel Kakko is a great fit on that line. You have three playmakers on that line and Kakko is being forced into playing a game he's not best suited for yet in being a net front presence. Chytil would be the best bet to balance that line out. He has that north-south get in front of the net or cycle type of game that the line is really missing. That leaves the playmaking to Panarin and Kakko and Chytil is left doing what he's most comfortable with. Strome's time for this organization is not long, even more-so because of this flat cap situation so it would be nice to see what Chytil can do on that line and maybe we can get a steal of a long term contract if he does well.

This post is the internet equivalent of walking into a room of people and shitting on the floor. We’re all fans of the same team and rooting for the same outcome. Let’s bring the fun factor up a notch.
Why dont you look up Brad Marchand whiffing the puck to start a shootout. Plenty of world class players have lost the puck on a shootout attempt. Go troll somewhere else.
yeah but then the question is why was Kakko chosen by Quinn as a top 3 shooter? Was he setting him up to fail? What has Kakko done to deserve being a top 3 shooter? I can understand when a 80 point player is chosen as the #3 shooter and fail, but to have a guy that is barely producing be 3rd and most important shooter and have him fail so miserably is pretty comical to me.
I wonder if the NYR vision of Kakko is more of a power forward, kind of a Rantanen lite version.
Nyr has two 1OA essentially and they r not worthwhile. Mcdavid mathews others get...oh well
You look bad, not Kakko.sorry I don't see how your comparison makes sense. Either get a new coaching staff or face the risk of big assets losing value. It is starting to look bad for Kakko.
That an interesting option, Kaapo has been plenty successful at left wing at lower levels. Playing LW will be the most natural place to put him as a young player, its a bit baffling the coaching haven’t thought of this. it’s also baffling they keep playing him in role a that’s he’s not comfortable. It’s like they never bothered looking at what’s made him successful, and trying to find him that role here.I kind of like this observation. Maybe event try Krav on the line with Panarin and Strome, let him play and learn from someone who speaks the same language.
Has Kappo gotten a shot with Zib and Buch? I know it’s his off wing but can’t recall.
