I love his game right now and like that he is going to the net, but not a fan of him standing there for the entire shift. He has great hand-eye and is great in tight places but looks pretty clear to me that he needs more strength before he is ready to do that kind of role vs guys who have 30lbs on him.

Cant be mad tho since he is looking like he is getting very close to breaking out big time. Playoffs would be a nice time to do that

Exactly, like it's ok to go infront of the net but standing there for a whole shift multiple times, not good.

I really believe that once KK gets his man strength, he will be a tough guy to deal with. Scoring will improve and he will get to impose his will more and more.

I sure hate to see Kakko *checks notes* go to high-danger scoring areas.

When Kakko was switched from playing with Chytil and Lafreniere to playing with Panarin and Strome, there was a shot of Panarin, Strome, and Kakko on the bench. Panarin and Strome are literally pointing at the net and saying "Go there!", and in that game, Kakko went to the net and scored a goal. Kakko is great along the wall but doesn't have a good idea of what to do with the puck when he has it. They want to simplify his game in the offensive zone so he can gain some confidence, and then loosen it up a bit.

He has been doing a much better job lately of getting off the wall, either with the puck or by finding a passing lane to a teammate.

a lot of those shot are actually dangling to the netminder. It's true kakko needs to be more decisive with his shot sometimes, especially when he has space. But the way he plays ltely, i'm not worried, he looks dominant.
Dominant ?? Then he needs points....otherwise he's a hard worker only...Just bc he has improved doesnt mean laf will do same. That's like saying kontos will be a star..he was picked ahead of bossy.

Exactly u don't draft a 2nd overall pick to just stand at the net.
it's better than standing at the wall

Blackwell is the only guy that I see consistently find space in the middle of the ice. It is mind blowing how no one else does.

Yep. The reality is if you want to be a star in the NHL you need to learn some things that are outside of your comfort zone and traditional style of play.

Kakko's board possession, while his best attribute, isn't enough on its own to make a good top 6 NHL player. Kreider had a ton of stuff to learn at his age too.

I havent talked about lafreniere, but for kakko i think its pretty clear he is starting to get a lot of looks and possession time. It needs to translate to points indeed, but seeing his play to me is a positive for his development.

The numbers might not point to it but Kaapo is a much better player this year. At times he’s been snakebit and at other times taking too long or being hesitant on taking a shot but often he looks awesome. His 200’ game has improved tremendously. I expect things are going to break for him. It might not be this year but he’s eventually going to get it and those numbers are going to be there and we won’t have just this one way offensive player we’re going to have a complete player.

Against the worst team in nhl though...yes he's looking better...but he needs points

i would say he has looked good for 5-6 games... ever since he was put on that second line.

i am not sure how much of it is The breadman. That said.... i love him on that line way more than blackwell.

no disrespect to blackwell- he has really shined fo us
