I guess we'll see.

Evolving Hockey gives Kakko a very low expected goals total considering what we see on that chart, so it could be poor shooting ability, but I think it's easily fixable.

Kakko tends to take a half second or make one more move when he's in those HD areas and he needs to learn to rip it immediately.

Does evolving hockey take into account his release? How the hell would they do that?

Honestly, I'm not sure sometimes on the very fine details.

I would wager that the chart above is taking into account only the type of shot (location, royal road) while Evolving Hockey is taking into account the timing of the actual release, which, as we've seen with the eye test, is too late at times. That would explain their lower number.

How can Evolving Hockey get that info? Do they look at every shot by every player in the NHL?

Considering he has only 4 non-empty net goals is it bad how poorly he's converting those? On the other hand means he's getting in good scoring position.
I have no clue what that chart is portraying or how they get their numbers but Kakko was doing nearly everything well, besides offense.

Getting to scoring areas and getting scoring chances is a new trend imo.

Mark Stone is the best comp in modern day NHL imo. Can argue Kakko's 'potential ceiling' could be greater than Stones, but I'd take it either way

Looked like a 90 point player last night. Will he actually become one? Who knows. But at least I now know he’s capable of it.

Takeaway skills of Mark Stone, silky hands of Patrick Kane, shot of John Scott

What a legend
I’m good with that. John Scott was the GOAT at everything.

No but for real, I’m cool with that. Imo a player’s shot is one of the least important attributes. Hockey is very luck-based sometimes, and as long as you have skill, a willingness to shoot, and a willingness to take the puck to the net, good things will happen. Rick Nash had one of the worst shots I’ve ever seen in the NHL but he had a damn good career. Not only that, but I think it’s relatively easy to make improvements to your shot compared to things such as size, hands, IQ, etc.

I’ve been told faceoffs dont matter. Now shots? What’s next, handling the puck?

Faceoffs don’t really matter long-term but are definitely a positive. Imo the quality of your shot doesn’t nearly matter as much as shot quantity and where the shots are coming from. Of course I’m not talking about a 20 mph shot. I’m talking about a below-average NHL shot.

They send their guys on ELC to the taxi squad on off days to save money on the cap, since those guys then get paid their minors salary (usually $70K) rather than their NHL salary. It's on a per-day basis but it adds up. They've done it with Shesterkin, Miller, Kakko, etc. Basically all of them. They don't do it for extended periods and they rotate the guys so as not to screw them out of too much cash.

On the flipside they also rotate guys from Hartford, which is a huge help to those guys as AHL salaries are prorated basically to 40% this year, but if you're on the taxi squad your salary is not prorated. So a guy with a $70K AHL salary actually playing in the AHL is most likely only making $28K; but the Rangers rotate them up to the taxi so they instead get paid based on the full $70K on the days they're on the taxi.

Those are mostly just paper transactions to earn guys some extra cash. So, the Rangers are being both savvy in saving the cap space with the NHL players, even if it kind of suck for those guys, but also taking care of the minor leaguers who really need the extra money right now.

Why is Quinn having Kakko stand infront of the net all game? He's not going to develop just standing there shoving others a little here and there, just dissapointing to say the least.

Agreed, if that’s his role on that line it’s not a good idea

I will say, jeez, watching him in this Buffalo game, the points just have to start coming for him in bunches soon. He’s everywhere.
