Hah, believe me, I totally understand the reaction that all that is tinfoily because that is usually my reaction to this kind of speculation as well. I'm just saying there is plenty of hard evidence as well as lived experience of Accutane's side effects, and those side effects absolutely have the potential to impact one's ability to play professional sport. I'm sure other regulars on this board have been through an Accutane regimen if they want to chime in.

Lol i've been making Accutane jokes about KK for a while but didn't realize it does all that. I do know back in the day some kids got depressed and killed themselves after taking it, so I thought it was off the market.

The comp was there all along... never seen anyone bring it up.. but I'd do cartwheels if he can develop into Mark Stone type of player.

A Rich Mans Mark Stone ceiling is 'the tits'. -Bill Pidto

Stylistically he is a great fit with Panarin IMO

We should only be happy if he gets goals against peak Hasek-level goalies on true contenders huh? Nothing else counts.

With respect - that is NOT what I said was it? Did I say we should only be happy when he does that? My original post stands - it’s perspective - glad he scored, want to see more but let’s not get too excited. Kid’s got a long way to go.

Some folks could work for CNN with an ability that advanced to read minds and put words in people’s mouths....

One of my son’s friends lost his starting lineup in youth soccer due to swollen joints and muscle cramps whilst on Accutane - couldn’t run or move as fast. When he stopped using it took him a few months to get back to “normal”.

It is still colloquially referred to as Accutane, but that brand name has been discontinued. It is still available in generic forms. Your dermatologist would call it Isotretinoin, and give you a prescription for Claravis probably. There are other generic names for it, but that's the most common in the US.

Call me crazy but they should start giving Kakko some PK time. He has been great defensively and is only after Stone in takeaways/60

i think this very much in his future but in due time...there is no need to throw more pressure and responsibility on him at the moment unless we have injuries and are short penalty killers.

If you read the Fox articles from Carp and Brooks they each have notes about Kakko. The Carp notes are careful to mention that Kakko being moved up to the Panarin line was in consultation with Quinn. That is was planned. The notes in the Brooks article makes it seem like it was 100% Knobbys call.

Thought that was interesting. Carp seems to portray Quinn in a more favorable light than Brooks does.

So he called him mid game and asked if he can move KK up? If he consulted Quinn about moving him up I think it would have been from the get go.

From Carp:

Knoblauch said there were a lot of reasons for moving Kakko up and that part of that plan was predetermined before the game because of the way he’d played the previous three or four games. In other words, coach David Quinn had a big hand in the decision.
“We felt he’s ready for more responsibility. … Ultimately, it was mostly Kaapo, his play, that determined us making that switch. He deserved it.”

With the PP usage he is getting, I think it'd be good for him. Too often he just sits for a whole period when either team gets into penalty troubles. I'm not talking a big PK role, but just throw him in there when there's like 20s left in the kill

The change in power play stats makes sense. Last year when Kakko was on the PP, he was playing on the first unit. This year he plays on the 2nd unit, who can't even get zone entry on the PP, let alone maintain possession.

Hard to enter the zone if you get 15 seconds of PP time and have to start behind your own net

From an outsider looking in, it seems the rangers will have to decide if they want to go on a playoff run or develop their kids. Kakko should be on pp1 over buch. The identity of the team is a bit confusing.

Buchnevich has played well enough to be on the top unit imo, but it wouldnt hurt sprinkling in Kakko from time to time. What's odd to me is that Quinn will juggle around the forward lines going into and during each game like I change my socks, but will stick with the PP units eternally even if the first unit isnt scoring.

What also wouldn't hurt is to actually play PP2. You know, start the 2nd unit when the penalty occurs with your top players on the ice, like other teams are doing.
