I'm not even sure what u can get for these guys... both of them.
By there two guys, you mean Bordzinski & Gettinger?

Because it it’s Lafreniere & Kakko, going to guess that the IQ level dropped by the time you hit the last keyboard stroke.

Yea he made a really good play on that goal that didn't end up on the scoresheet. Got the puck out and took a big hit. He is absolutely a really good defensive player this year.

And I know we all want more than that...but because the NYR won 9-0 last night and I'm feeling chipper...the positive spin would be that he has made a super impressive turn around on that front since last year - which signals high coachability and strong work ethic. If he has been able to develop that side of his game so well and so quickly, perhaps with the right guidance on the offensive side of the puck he can improve similarly over time. The challenge is if that guidance needs to be "start cheating a little more to mitigate the impact of your relative lack of quickness" or something like that.
I think the development process falls on the player mostly. Unless you look at a Greg gilbery isles...great 30 goals early in career..then mothing...was it all arbors fault ??

It's one thing that he isn't producing - it's frustrating. It'd be a much bigger deal if he wasn't creating chances or playing well in other areas.

Not worried yet.
Are we looking at him being an nhl player or the scorer they said ?? If u want an nhl player. then drafting 2nd overall with all praise means nothing.

From the same Athletic article that was pumping Fox’s tires.

I know people are really sick of hearing about expected-this and that/60, but it’s a relative big-ish deal that people outside of the Rangers fan base are recognizing the dramatic improvements he’s made...

4. Last season, there wasn’t a single skater who was less valuable than Rangers rookie Kaapo Kakko. He didn’t score much and was a massive liability at five-on-five. The NHL is a tough league, but it’s not often a rookie looks that bad – mostly because they usually don’t stick around in the big leagues if they can’t cut it. Kakko wasn’t ready and he was worth minus-1.7 wins last season as a result.

This season has been night and day.

While the production still isn’t there, it’s coming soon. Kakko is taking two more shots per game and has greatly increased the quality of those chances. More importantly, his play-driving impacts have improved immensely as he’s looked more determined with the puck and more comfortable without it. Last year the Rangers earned 38 percent of the expected goals with Kakko on the ice. This year they’re at 57 percent – one of the best marks on the team.

16 Stats: East Division playoff race, love for the Islanders, elite Adam Fox, electric Kirill Kaprizov

what's that doofus writing about? he still doesn't score and still is a liability 5x5.

if anybody should be getting 2 more shots per game it's laffy.

if liability on 5 v. 5 you mean you’re down and need a goal, sure, but defensively he’s been really good. he rarely takes penalties, he covers his man, he steals the puck. I’m surprised they haven’t tried him on the PK yet.

I dont think it will ever be there for kakko. Both rookies I dont see it. Panarin plays like he's a number 1 overall and has mega ability on ice....lafren not so. Im wondering if thenQMJHL is a weak league compared to ohl....that was true many years ago. If you don't score...discouragement etc will be a factor

Lack of ice team means to me..others are better...in the end the player has to get better..figure it out.

Lafrenière is better than Panarin was at the same age. Comparing a 28-year old Panarin to a 19-year old Lafrenière makes no sense to me.

Yes we’ve already established your opinions on both Kakko and Lafreniere, but thank you for reminding me.

Bc he is 1st overall and looks lost. Im.not sure elite players get better over the years. I understand the age difference....but there are often players who excel at 18 or 19. Panarin was a scorer from day 1..by alot.

Weil all righty then.

have you been moving in the basement and do not know that there’s a new season?

Panarin entered the league at age 24 man. Panarin at age 18/19 was not close to the player he is today. He even spent time in juniors in his D+1 season. He went undrafted 3(!) times.

I like the kid but he is on pace for less than 8 goals and 16 points in a full season.

Something needs to click for him.
