Lafreniere cannot be sent to Hartford. He'd have to go back to Rimouski
He's getting to the point...in all fairness...where its getting to not be happening for him. He isn't improving and I'm sure not doing well here has to be in his head. I have been banned in the laf..thread.

Yeah, but Chytil, Fox and Lindgren are doing fine so there's no cause for concern. Or something.

If I cheat on 4 of my 7 girlfriends, I am faithful but that logic

4 top-10 picks, from 4 different cultures and countries, are struggling on the same team. That's concerning.

That's a good point. On the other hand think about Tampa's developmental success. They are a factory and it's not just good fortune.

It's just not drafting for them either. They seem to have a system in place that gets the most out of their guys. Palat, Cirelli, Point, Johnson, Gourde, Killorn.

He set up Laf for the Chytil (Hajek,Laf) goal... just getting no breaks at all atm.

Yea he made a really good play on that goal that didn't end up on the scoresheet. Got the puck out and took a big hit. He is absolutely a really good defensive player this year.

And I know we all want more than that...but because the NYR won 9-0 last night and I'm feeling chipper...the positive spin would be that he has made a super impressive turn around on that front since last year - which signals high coachability and strong work ethic. If he has been able to develop that side of his game so well and so quickly, perhaps with the right guidance on the offensive side of the puck he can improve similarly over time. The challenge is if that guidance needs to be "start cheating a little more to mitigate the impact of your relative lack of quickness" or something like that.

Totally agree. In all the games I've been watching, he's been a part of a lot of plays that have gotten his line points. He's been doing a lot of the unheralded work of creating space, digging out the puck, creating turnovers. You don't get as many assists when you're the one going deep in the defensive zone to get plays going. To add to your point about coachability and work ethic, he will also continue to get stronger, which will further mitigate any "quickness" problem.

Honestly its almost funny he never gets that secondary assist for a classic pss vack to the point or wtv... his shooting percentage is very low (5%). I thought i saw earlier in the season when he scored his two goals he was playing a lot more like a triggerman in waiting when he didnt have the puck, going in the slot or between circles waiting for a shot. He now seems to play more on the board and always moving, making him work but hes less available for a quick one timer. Od like him to balance it between board play and going to find soft spots for a shot. Anyways hes looked good, just doesnt get any points. His understanding of the game will jeep getting better. His shot and first steps will probably get better too, i dont see why he wouldnt become a 60-70pts guy in the future. Rarely does the eye test look so good but it doesnt translate to progression/points.

Posted in another thread, but makes more sense here:

Kakko, at his best, should be a high IQ player who uses his size to be a possession monster. He’s not a speedster nor a sniper with an elite shot. The latter type comes onto the scene with a bang (and sometimes peaks early), while the former takes time to develop.

There were stretches while Panarin was out where Kakko looked like our best forward. Great along the boards and stripping pucks like he’s Stone or Datsyuk. He lacks the size and IQ to do that consistently, especially against better competition, but it will come. And maybe it’s better he develops into that role facing weaker competition w/ his peers on the 3rd line.

last night was Laf's 1st ever secondary assist. And it wasn't even a cheap one (unless you count Philly being horrible on the backcheck as cheap), he was closed down at the blueline boards and made a pretty nifty stop and scoop to get the puck to Hajek who set up Chytil for the one timer. Kakko had a relatively cheap 2ndary assist the last time he got a point 20 games ago lol but yeah neither of them have been having much luck. Still, this production is really not acceptable. For Kakko you can't even use the teenager excuse (which was bogus to begin with), he's 20 years old.

No one trading for him today is doing so because of his point production this season. They'd trade for his potential and cheap contract.
His potential is perceived as lower now, and will continue to get worse if he doesn't have a big turnaround. Look at Nolan Ryan, do you think he would be a centerpiece to an Eichel deal? He's cheap, he has potential. He has more red flags than Kakko due to health but he also produced more in his first 2 seasons.

Buffalo can get a cheap, high potential player with their high draft pick, and can get a whole lot more for their star centerman

I think an NHL GM is going to evaluate his worth differently than you or I would. I also feel like they'd take Kakko in a deal before one of the greatest pitchers of his generation.

I know Kakko was marketed as an NHL-ready prospect but I wonder if he was rushed a bit and would've probably still benefited from playing another year in Finland. Going back sure did wonders for Puljujärvi.

Still, I'm not worried about Kaapo, mainly because of the head on his shoulders. He will figure it out sooner or later, there's already signs of it, and the points will start to come.

Absolutely. Like I said, it's not a fluke. Morgan Geekie leading the league in goals/game is a fluke.
