It's crazy how much different his game has been at the NHL level as opposed to at every lower level. I obviously realize some players' games don't translate 100% but Kakko literally dominated the opposition his entire life and with swagger to boot. He went from being a possession monster to acting like every puck he touches has COVID on it

I truly think the vast majority of his problems thus far are from a lack of confidence playing against men. The remaining is from lack of strength/endurance. Once he fills out and realizes he's on par strength wise with a lot of these guys I think he will take a huge step forward. I will say though his ceiling is probably a bit lower than what many of us originally thought. I think he peaks at around 65-70 points which is a bit disappointing for a 2nd overall pick but not too far from the production historically seen from that draft position.

The baffling part though is that he was playing against men in Finland. I get it’s not the NHL, but that’s on talent, not necessarily strength. His timidness is troubling.

Kakko is a teenager from Finland playing on a team with zero structure and no identity. Young players, no matter how talented, need consistency around them to help them find their footing. We've been moving players in and out of New York at every position non-stop since he got here, and every player brought in is a decade younger than the one who left.

Does anyone know what happened to her? I remember she did wonders for Brian Boyle's skating. Surprised the Rangers never sent more players her way.

I think Quinn needs to stop hand holding Kakko at this point. It's clear trying to not hurt his feelings in fear of hurting his confidence isn't work. I think he needs to light a fire under his ass Torts style. Otherwise I don't think he's ever going to engage in the play.

Some other team hired her I think.

Yeah, pretty sure she works for the Leafs alone now.

Something to consider..With a lineup that includes Zbad and Panarin, Kakko has been the NYR best player 3 out of the last 4 games.
Those 3 games were the ones that counted too..

Did you tear anything with this stretch?

Any one that actually recorded, IDK, maybe a point?

I really don't know what people were raving about Kakko in the play-in.

He looked better than he looked most outings in the regular season. Absolutely nothing night and day, but people saw some better jump and a little more confidence and extrapolated that to he was one of the better looking players in the series to he was the best Ranger in the series. It’s everyone craving some tangible evidence of progress. He did look better. He averaged just under 16 minutes a night (15:53 in the bubble) and still had 0 points, 0 hits and was a -1. Not that those stats mean anything, and he did look overall more comfortable than he usually did during the season, but it is a narrative that we’ve kind of spun ourselves to pick out a silver lining from the awful play in. I’m not denying he looked better, but hardly as significant as it’s made out to be.

Kakko needs goals. A stretch of them. That cures a lot for a young kid. I don’t agree with him being demoted in the lineup after one game.

What’s the purpose of singling him out up front. Almost all the forwards blew ass. Really felt Quinn would stick with things.

Showing panic to the team 20 min into the game and then switching all the lines and pairings for game 2 is not the signal you want to be sending this group imho

Demand a better individual effort physically from each guy, including Kaapo. The team needed to pull the rope together. Hard to do when half the roster is playing with someone different than where they were all camp, and then youngsters you are counting on to take the next step are being singled out.

He carried a lot of the play in those 3 games.
It definitely made Carolina have to re-think their game plan a bit

Yeah, just because he didn't score a goal, that doesn't mean he had a bad game. Same on Thursday.

He made things happen on his line. He caused some turnovers and while on the puck he was solid. Strome was invisible, and Panarin was just sloppy. I know there's a chart with Kakko showing the worst possession stats but that same chart implies Johnson was better than Lindgren. Stats are useful to a degree but they don't show the whole picture.

Kakko certainly didn't play bad enough to warrant a demotion and being removed from the PP in favour of Lemieux

Just look at the way this kid handles the puck.
He's going to be money for this team..Straight up!

This board is not a patient group by any stretch, and I think everybody just expected in this step in and being above average player based on what he did at the World championships and in Europe, he just needs some time, and we just need some patience...

Good job kiddo. Goal's gotta feel good. Saw him go down and block a shot as well. Time to do it again bud. Hell of a 2nd half to that game. Keep winning those battles.

Hopefully fans can calm down about the kid now. He is still a teenager. I know fans want him to dominate right away but just gotta be patient

Wasn't a great game from him by any stretch, but it was better and scoring is always nice. Hopefully he gets back on the PP in the next game.

Think that scratching DeAngelo helped a lot. Kakko turned it on after he took the play. Benchings work, good coaching job by the staff here.
