Crazy how this doesn't seem to apply to Johnsson, Strome ect. And maybe you should give the guys more than 1 period, especially since the whole line was shit anyways, not just Kakko

The natural follow-up to that answer is, "then why did you promote Johnson and demote Gauthier?" I'm sure our hard-hitting beat writers asked.

This.

Unfortunately, I think a lot of what we saw last night really wasn't unexpected.

This is the youngest team in the league, and there's the transition period that is very easy to underestimate between accumulating picks and prospects and then waiting for them to mature.
I think a lot of everyone’s frustration today and last night wasn’t about the development process, but more how little Quinn seems to have faith in it himself.
Shuffling lines immediately to me indicates a he’s not giving guys like kakko or chytil a chance to get a feel for their line mates. The camp was extraordinarily short, without any true games to get ready, and the team came out flat and instead of saying “ok we’re flat that’ll change” he immediately went to the tried and true, I trust grinders more than kakko. I’m hesitant to say kakko and panarin work, but I think I’d need more than 15 minutes to make a decent argument to prove I’m right.

Well said!

I just enjoy the process of watching who steps up and who doesn’t. It’s going to be tough sledding in this division.

Is Quinn trying to develop these players or is he trying to strip them of their self-esteem? How's anyone supposed to get any flow when there's a penalty every few minutes and then Quinn's already broken up your line?
Quinn's not the one taking the penalties out there. And he's gotta shuffle the lines after special teams play.

Getting your guys to play diciplined hockey kinda is
Maybe he did and they didn't listen? I doubt he encouraged his team to go out there and take penalties, because he needed to look in-depth at the PK in a live game.

I get you. Again, I'm not saying that the shuffling is him looking for the right combos. My theory is it's a roundabout way of saying, play with effort or you're gonna get moved from a spot that you presumed was penciled for you.

If he’s preached discipline and his team isn’t listening, that’s still the team not buying into his message.
Ultimately the coach is responsible for getting his players to buy into what he tells them.

I agree to that. Time and future games will be telling. Maybe they need a disciplinarian-type HC.

To me it says he's trying to win a hockey game and send a message at the same time.

Not gonna lie I have to pay attention to him more away from the puck. With someone like Panarin on his line maybe he has to move his feet more to get open. Definitely tho he is gonna have to become more of a puck hound. Hopefully his skating and stamina will allow him to do that.

I mentioned this earlier, but this is exactly what I saw from Kakko most of last year and last night was no different. I'm not saying Panarin was amazing last night, but his line mates need to find open ice and that had alot to do with it. Kakko doesn't see the ice at a pro level yet and it is glaring when playing with Panarin who sees a few plays ahead. He REALLY needs to focus on positioning without the puck.

Kakko said the other day that Laine is his favorite player to watch

Kakko chuckin' knucks with JGP tomorrow, book it!

Last night's penalties were all due to not knowing where to be and straight up frustration.
All on Quinn..

the answer to the hack question may indicate the coach should be in college and perhaps take the amateur hack with him

"Ok so we have Laf and Kreider who are actually playing and everyone else are pretty much shite. Can't promote Kreider, but Laf deservers it. Who should i demote?"

"Aigh im gonna demote the kid who just started second season in NHL, has low self esteen/confidence and is trying to learn how to play in NHL"

Bravo Quinn. Bravo! And he is suppose to be development coach...
