Good lord some of the overreactions here are ridiculous. No preseason games and his first game in ages. Everyone looked horrible and rusty.
I won’t be judging Kakko for 15-20 games or so.
It’ll take a while for everyone to get in shape, shake the rust off, develop chemistry and get used to playing hockey so that we can’t accurately get a read on his development.
Drawing any conclusions from our first game, especially given the crazy circumstances makes no sense. Take a deep breath and chill out for a while. This is all true. However, most of us were told last year that his lack of a burst was due to over-use for all of the hockey he had played the year before. Now that he's had time to rest and train, we were then told to expect a lot more in that regard.
The first game back? He still looks like he only has one gear. That is troubling. That is something the team really needs to focus on if they can.
I am certainly not writing him off, but pointing out troublesome trends is appropriate.
Maybe with a different coaching staffPeople will need to calm down here, he'll come around.

I cant wait until fans starting doing this for Laffy. this fan base has no patience. it is sad.One game in and people already suggesting trading kakko
1 cup in 80 years and we're still here. I'd say the fanbase has a lot of patience.I cant wait until fans starting doing this for Laffy. this fan base has no patience. it is sad.

Explainer: Player Discussion - David Quinn: Part IIThe one place Kakko has been successful is the PP and Quinn removes him. Help me understand this.
Strome needs to be on that right spot where he has zero threat to shoot and every team knows he's either gonna pass it back to the point or try a cross ice feed to PanarinThe one place Kakko has been successful is the PP and Quinn removes him. Help me understand this.

This is it.
I also think some of us are still suffering PTSD over Brendl and Lundmark and have trust issues with first round picks. I'd feel a lot better about Kakko if he showed those glimpses of high end skill more regularly. You saw it in the play-in round in March, even if he wasn't producing. But maybe the consistency will come with time.
I feel like his game could be quite dangerous on the pp. A little more space. He has tremendous hands. Not to mention a boost in confidence.Unfortunately, it seems like he's far from getting that chance on the pp1.The one place Kakko has been successful is the PP and Quinn removes him. Help me understand this.
Not gonna lie I have to pay attention to him more away from the puck. With someone like Panarin on his line maybe he has to move his feet more to get open. Definitely tho he is gonna have to become more of a puck hound. Hopefully his skating and stamina will allow him to do that.Kakko shows plenty of glimpses I think when he gets the puck but part of his problem thus far has been his ability to get the puck with regularity. Whether because lack of forechecking or teammates not helping him or whatever, this goes back to what I say when I say I think he needs to be more of a puck hound out there.
Dude does his best work with the puck so go get the damn puck
Bingo!!!What did Quinn give Kakko one shift on that 2nd line before taking him off? He only played 11 minutes, that's an absolute joke. LET THE f***ING KID PLAY.
Based on what exactly? I’m not saying he will or won’t, but what flashes as he shown in games he’s played?People will need to calm down here, he'll come around.
