Ugh you might want to check out Askarov more, he had a whole month where he gave up like four goals.

And why is Saros a backup all of a sudden? He's 29.
So if Askarov plays amazing like OP said he'd be the backup? I'm sure Askarov would love that.

Trade Askarov?

Nobody is taking a 33 year old backup goalie making 7.74M signed for another 5 years. Unless Saros is LTIRetired at that point
If that backup goalie is posting a .930, you sure there wouldn't be anyone interested?

I remember when people said the same thing when we signed Markstrom.
Does Demko become what he is if Markstrom is signed for another 8 years?

Sorry kid we know you're great, but this guy is signed for another decade. We gotta play him and hurt your potential earnings.

Do tell, what high level forward was Saros bringing back? Ullmark just won a vezina and was essentially traded for nothing (the cap dump and the 1st basically cancel out). Fleury won a vezina and was traded for nothing. Markstrom was traded with retention for a late 1st.

So please do tell, what could you possibly have that I don't, that shows Saros was bringing back a top level forward?

Buddy, I mentioned above Ullmark's return was god awful was because he wasn't extended by Ottawa. Saros would've gotten extended if you claim how much better he is than everyone and how Nashville desperately needs him. Saros for Necas type trade makes both teams better immediately and long term or something from Toronto including Marner. This idea that you apparently think Nashville is better with Saros now and long term is borderline hilarious

So is Saros good and worth a high level asset or is he ass? Makeup your mind

He was their best chance at getting better up front and they blew it for another 2-3 years. Better hope Gustav Nyquist scores 70 points again to be a bubble team

The fact that you think Saros, extended or not, had huge trade value is hilarious.

Do tell, what goalie trade has brought back a great return? A young Schneider, that's it.

What pending UFA got a huge return even with an extension? They've all had rental prices.

Come back when you have even a shred of evidence in your favor

Demko had better numbers in the NHL than Askarov did in the AHL. Askarov hasn't shown what Demko had. He was a .913 goalie in the NHL when Markstrom left in free agency. There was also an expansion draft where Vancouver was going to lose one of them if they signed Markstrom.

You just completely dodged the question lol.

Does Demko develop into what he is if he's only getting 20-30 games? Does he demand a trade out?

Markstrom was in a similar situation in Florida & he wanted out. You gotta let the young guys play if you have faith in them.

Demko took over when he was 25. Askarov has 3 years before he's 25

No, I didn't doge the question. Demko became what he is WITH Markstrom still there. He already was a .913 goalie with Markstrom. Not a goalie who was slightly above AHL average.

Great deal for the Preds. They can have the best tandem in the league for the next 3ish years and then trade one of them (likely Saros)
Why would Askarov want to stay and how would this benefit him?

Odds are hes traded and it helps them contend now, during Saros' deal; a fine backup can be had for pennies versus Akarov's still decently high value

Nashville can either trade Saros now for a minimal return because goalies according to the market are worth f*** all, and gamble that Askarov might be better than guys who've out performed him in the AHL

Or they can ride their top 5 goalie and probably still dump him for nothing when he brakes (only a slight step down from what they'd get trading him now), and make sure Askarov is actually legit.

It's a no brainer

Why did Demko? Shesterkin? Both of them took over at about age 25 when they were ready

So Demko becomes an elite starter playing 50+ games with Markstrom still there? Interesting.

So the backup option is to give a goalie that just came off a .906 a 8 year extension and make it even harder for your former top 15 pick to get ice time? I'm sure that'll work out well. The Predators are no mans land situation anyway, they're not good enough to compete for a division banner, let alone a Cup right now with their current roster. You play Askarov and trade Saros to the highest bidder for help up front with the skaters up front. Guy got outplayed by Silovs in round 1 but yeah he's a cornerstone.

I remember when Bobby Lou did that. It was a great idea and didn't ever backfire at all.

I mean there is a question of whether the Predators should've done this deal at this point.

But Saros for 8x7.75 is a good deal in a vacuum. We are talking about a top-5 goalie here, a real difference maker.

And once again you're proving you have no clue how goalie development works. You overcook goalies in the AHL, and then ease them in as a backup then 1B in the NHL.

And once again you're wildly missing that goalies have next to no trade value
