1st time poster here...so take it easy on me...lol

Theres a lot of talk goin on about the Blues interest in Taylor Hall....I wouldnt be opposed...but just dont know how the Blues would afford to resign him this summer. I think Sam Reinhart is the better fit on this team as far as forwards go....
BUT...what I really think the Blues need is a thumper on D who is responsible. Theyre a rare breed in todays NHL. The one guy I have always had hopes for...is Jamie Oleksiak from Dallas. The dude is 6 ft 7 and 255 lbs...hits like a truck...signed to a very good deal at a little over 2 mil...i think he has 1 year left. Hes steady defensively and can skate well for a big man.
I was skimming through a bunch of rumor sites and it appears the Stars are likely to do little to nothing. They have no cap space...so it would be dollar in dollar out. Several "pundits" feel that Oleksiak is one of the few guys that could be expendable in a deal IF they make one. They apparently would like to add a scoring dman and maybe some offe sive punch.
Just throwing it out there...but would you do Dunn...a 2nd...and a middle tier prospect for Oleksiak? The salaries would wash out...and Dallas gets what they need and some futures. Would they even entertain that idea?
Oleksiak....imo...is JUST what our D corps needs.

Welcome to the board!

Oleksiak was really bad before he rebounded to being serviceable. Dunn is far more valuable than he is. Even then, I wouldn't be looking for an Oleksiak add. Oleksiak would be good for a Bortuzzo replacement, but he makes way too much to be that for us.

I don't think Hall makes a lot of sense for the Blues; he's not what we need this year unless he comes really cheap (then who wouldn't take a flyer?), and, if we want him long term, he's definitely not staying in Buffalo, so we can get him in FA if we somehow end up having the cash (I really don't think we will). We should be saving our assets and cap space for something more necessary.

If we can find a guy that's big, I'd be okay with it, but I think what we really need is a defenseman that can eat minutes on defense, has a strong first pass, and doesn't get worked by an aggressive forecheck. Ideally, we'd like them to be able to play both sides so he can cover for Parayko and then eventually partner with either him or Faulk. Everyone seems to be enamored with Scandella, but I've never been a fan of the signing. Upgrading him/Dunn would be my priority, which is why I think Montour could be a good add (though it's far from sure).

Scandella is a good #4. But we need, ideally at minimum, another of his quality defensively. I like what Krug brings but don't think he is strong enough defensively to play role we are asking of him.

I'd prefer someone paired with Parayko that still has size, but is more mobile and a better puck mover than Scandella, even if it means giving up some physicality. Krug is too small for that role and I feel like Scandella is a little too slow. Both are fine as 2nd pairing guys, just not 1st pairing and especially not in a shut down role.

This has absolutely nothing to do with my opinion of Oleksiak, but this reminds me of the Trade Board when a Pittsburgh fan was equating Oleksiak to Parayko. Good times lol.

I’m not opposed to a two. Tower D-pair with oleksiak-Parayko..... but they would be adding the 2nd to oleksiak for Dunn, not the other way around

If anything, I really want us to acquire a BIG, STRONG, capable Dman that can slot up and down where needed. Nothing special, nothing elite, just a meat and potatoes style of player.

Gio from Calgary. Love Hannifin, I just don’t see us getting him.

I don’t like big Oleksiak. I have never been a fan. He is a bottom pairing Guy.

All the defensive errors that Dunn makes, but with no offensive upside or room to grow. But I guess he can hit things.

Well at least he backed up his opinion with an espn.com link to the top 250 fantasy players...

As much as I don't think they would prefer to deal with us; I do think there is another move to be made with Buffalo.
Not on defense, but for forwards.

IF Army is wanting to shore up the bottom 2 lines heading into the PO's; Buffalo has 3 guys that would be really good fits here in Curtis Lazar(if he wasn't injured), Cody Eakin and Riley Sheahan.
I wouldn't move Dunn for any of them unless there was a high draft pick attached(which I can't see Buffalo doing), but I can certainly see Army checking on the price(you could probably snag any of them with a deal centered around Blais) to shore up the 4th line with Clifford and Barbashev. Nothing against DLR and Joshua, but the 4th line is an easy spot to upgrade.
