Maybe this team couldnt even make playoffs. Pouliot-Brass-Zuke was the main reason we were there.
I think a stronger hypothetical is the one where Michael Sauer never gets hurt and we never make the bonehead Nash trade. In that hypothetical I think you see the Rangers actually winning the cup in 2012 because of the lack of stress on the top 4 (Sauer could have easily played 15+ minutes a night in a normal game had he been healthy). Then the team goes forward with an absurd amount of talent on the blue line, maybe Del Zotto is able to develop a little better with a guy like Sauer on the pairing with him. None of it matters now though..this team is where it is.

Would they have made the Nash trade in the frst place had Gaborik worked in Tort's system?

But the opposing team's D knew to shut down the Rangers offense, you shut down the Prospal/Gabs line. It then became frustrating seeing Gaborik give up the puck by just putting the body on him or sneezing on him. Figured this is when they thought having Nash on his line would free him up and give him more space to snipe. Didn't work.

Yea, interesting fact, isn't it? But in the end he didn't come through in the Conference Finals, was injured a bit, both of which were reasons for him being moved, I believe. So they acquire with four NHL postseason games under his belt, but perhaps the thinking was all he needed was to be on a team that made the playoffs to be a prolific scorer in the postseason.
How about if Cherepanov didn't have a heart condition?
This means (1) you don't have to trade for Nash, (2) you buy out richards last summer, (3) you use Gaborik to bring in a true 1st line Center, (4) Stepan gets to be the elite #2 C that he is.

Exactly... imagine if he "fit the system" better... Still one of the best free agent signings the Rangers have ever made. Not happy we moved him, but it probably helped our depth.

honestly how can anyonr question the Nash and Gabby deals when the pieces from those deals made it too the finals? a few OT goals and we are still playing

Gaborik to LA was a separate trade not facilitated by Glen Sather... Secondly Gaborik wasn't traded for Nash so even if you were going to compare trades you'd have to look at Gaborik vs Brass/Moore/Dorse. Nash never had any bearing on Gaborik, that was Gaborik quitting on Torts and having an overall ****** attitude. Which is understandable and I have nothing against him at all, but people need to get over the idea that Nash had anything to do with Gaborik's departure. He didn't. They brought Nash in to play with Gaborik and Richards, two of the three **** the bed right away.

That team would probably have a good cup run. However, Who knows who we would even play? Hypothetically that roster looks like it can make a run for the preisdents trophy. Which means completely different seeds. It also means that LA is gaborik-less and probably doesn't even get past SJ much less anaheim and chicago.
