Slafkovsky play very good at rookies games.
Show some good things against NJ in pre-season... against Toronto, more difficult for him... but yeah it's just pre-season and he have unique tools, he have great hands, great shot, great passing ability, he need time at AHL.

So the question... what the potential of Slafkovsky in NHL level?

I think he'll be a top 6 forward in Europe.

Right now? Didn't the Habs own GM say he's been underwhelming and he's likely going back to the AHL?

“Yeah, 1,000 per cent,” Hughes said. “We’ll see how he progresses. I thought his two exhibition games were a little underwhelming for him. But the two rookie games in Buffalo he was great

“But we got to do what’s right for him and if we do what we said when we drafted him, we weren’t looking for the best 18-year-old — we were looking for the best NHL player down the road,” Hughes added. “And I don’t think we’d do that without making the right decision for him. Whether it’s the popular decision or not, we’re going to do what we believe is right.”

Canadiens forward Josh Anderson was asked after practice Friday if he thought Slafkovsky looked like he was ready to play in the NHL.

“It’s really tough,” Anderson said. “Getting the first taste of an NHL training camp and it’s still pretty early. I think you got to give him a couple of more games just to work on his game a little bit.

Sounds like he's going down, looks great with junior players - bad with NHL players.

I think his best years end up around 75 points and his average during his peak around 65. Could see him being an effective playoff performer too.

He’s hard to gauge because not a lot of players with his size and skillset come around

MacKenzie said before the draft nobody in the draft projects to be a 1st liner. Not even those at the top of the draft. If he tops out at 60 points. that will be good

It's pretty good if all you're projected to be is a 2nd liner. Even if you are a 1st OA
Then he shouldn't have been the pick if that's all he's projected to be. Or Montreal should have traded that pick for a hue haul because if the best you can get from your 1OA is 60 points (assuming he's not a defenseman or plays Bergeron-level defense) that's pretty bad.

Watched Slafkovsky in the Olympics and Worlds and he did very well. The level of many teams wasn't that great. He's still young and NHL is a tough league for player his age. He's talented but not exceptional talent.

He wasn't that great in Liiga though so it was option that he'd need more maturing. He'll be a decent player but probably something around 65 points in his prime.

Potential, as in top ceiling? Probably the top of the list. Scoring is on the rise

Most teams have the same info when it comes to players at the top of the draft. If it's a weak draft year they're unlikely to give a huge haul for the 1st OA.

That said we also haven't seen a 1st overall pick traded since the 1999 draft.
