In all seriousness, that's a good deal for Nashville. Volchenkov is a good 3rd pairing defensive defenceman.

I don't know why but I have a feeling Sather is going to target Ribero..he's the best center left on the market. I'd rather him than a guy like Derek Roy or Saku Koivu (forgot he still played). Two years ago, this guy was a point a game player.. buy low..

Who cares if he's a piece of ****, if he's scoring goals and racking up points... fine by me. Guy can still play when his head is on right.

1 year, 2 million. Get it done. We aren't getting a Thornton type.. gotta go out to the marketplace.

If you look at the centers available Via CapGeek... it's very very weak and scary. Ribero is the only player left who scored more than 40 points last season besides Daniel Alfredsson (who's not coming here anyway).

We have to replace Richards' offense at center. Ribero's the guy, like it or not.

i know this guys probably full of ****, but still fun to speculate on it anyways

Rangers on the verge of acquiring Thornton. Continue to check @NHLRumorsDaily for the up to the minute info as we get it.This should be fun!

That guy is flat out trolling now with the wrestling references and the #bookit stuff.

Pretty entertaining though.

His excuse for why the Rangers haven't announced the Carter signing yet was hilarious.

Completely agree with this.

Honestly, it makes sense...

Not fond of the attitude issues, but you have to think we have a solid enough of a locker room to take the risk..

sign him to a 1 year 1 M contract, and if he starts causing problems, stuff his ass on the pack. $75k cap hit is well worth that risk... On top of that, I can't see anyone offering him anything at this point, so he may as well take that 1M... his stock is probably at its lowest

Exactly and he's getting the money from Arizona anyway. A season with the Rangers can rebuild his value like it did with the Caps.

Thornton makes alot of sense if you think about it.

-Good friends and playing experience with Nash.

-Played with Boyle successfully for many years in SJ. On the PP. Need I say more?

-Gives Stepan a chance to excel by not going against the top lines so often.

-Fits right into the cup window for the current core.

-A very good forward group of Thornton, Nash, St.Louis, Stepan, Zuccarello, Kreider, Hagelin, Moore while keeping our strong D intact.

-San Jose and Doug Wilson effectively complete their "rebuild" by letting Thornton go and passing the torch to Pavelski and Couture, without damaging center depth(if Brassard is assumed to be the main piece going back).

You make some good points and I would do this if Brassard is the main piece going back but who else do we trade. Brassard, McIlrath and a second round pick? I still don't think that is enough but also don't know how much more we can afford to give back. And it makes it too tight on the salary cap for us.

Starting to like Ribeiro more and more he will most like come to an low cost at this point, it's a complete different thing to pay a douce 4.5 than 1.5 and he fills a major hole. If AV can get his straight and fit him into suiting role we hit a home run if it's just the latter which shouldn't be hard really he's a valuable hockey player on this team for no risk.

And the there's that cap space and lack of assets thing....

Nash already chokes enough in the play-offs..... now adding Thornton who may be the only other star who chokes more???

thornton's playoff stats don't come close to his reputation...yes his teams always choke but his individual stats aren't that bad. rick nash could double his production and still be worse than joe

imo its unfair and insulting to compare anyone in the playoffs to rick nash...no one is as crappy as bill berg, i mean, rick nash

Had Nash choked this postseason to the tune of .76 points per game (Thornton's career playoff average), we might have another Cup at the moment.

Joe Thornton does not choke in the playoffs, his TEAM does.

People tend to forget the whole team thing. Unfortunately for Jumbo, he actually tends to show up and his team of underachievers forgets to.

The playoff choker is completely undeserved.

Honestly you could make the case that none of the Sharks big name players "choke" in the playoffs individually - but, collectively, they just can't get it done. Marleau, Couture, Pavelski, and Thornton (also Boyle, he was a major part of some of these Sharks teams) all have very good playoff numbers.
