I would make the signing because I am not comfortable with Miller being the 3rd line center of this team. He didn't show me enough last season to justify that role.

Ribeiro sucked last year in Phoenix but if you put him in the right situation he can put up some points. Obviously Phoenix is not the right spot for a player like Ribeiro.

Dont Get me wrong I'd love him as a #3 C but I think it's more likely not going to happen but you never know

Ribiero is a piece of **** who causes problems everywhere he goes. Phoenix was not the issue, his personality is.

Lol at Eric Staal not being a #1 and Stepan being one. I have now heard it all.

Ribiero's off-ice issues, whatever they are exactly, could very well be worse in a place like NYC.

Avoid him like the plague. This team doesn't need to take a risk with his ********.

Would anyone else here want to sign Dany Heatley to a one year 1.5-2 MM deal to replace Pouliot? I think it makes a lot of sense. And what about Mike Ribeiro to a similar contract? Not a fan of Ribeiro but it could work.

LOL You got alotta balls joining this forum with that user name/avatar

I agree with Ribeiro being a d***. But neither of you think it's worth it if he takes a Brad Richards type contract? If we can get him for 1 year 2 million I think it's worth the risk. Imagine we get 60-70 points from him?

He's the only player left on the market with that type of potential and will probably cost dirt cheap.

If Ribeiro will take one year at a million or 2 I definitely take a chance.

So sketchy on Ribeiro. Personally (though its irrelevant) I hate him.

Also, hasn't he had issues with his previous teams even before Phoenix? No denying he is talented, but I'd rather pass. Losing big locker room characters like Boyle and Richards only add to it.

Ribeiro is soon 35, to bet that he's going to change is naive, yes it could happend but you shouldn't count on it. The question is, is he worth a gamble and can you live with his ****?

I'd like to think this team got enough of leaders with great character to make it worth it if he'll take a one year deal under two million to redeem himself, if not he already got one foot out of this league.

For those advocating, a Stepan trade, I mentioned it before, and I'll say it again, what happens after a few years after the player we acquires continues to decline, while Stepan enters his prime? What magical center do we have that can replace him? Oh yeah that's right, none.

This ******** about how a 57-point, top notch two-way center THAT IS 24 isn't a real 1C is asinine. Claiming Bergeron isn't a 1C is even worse.

Hahaha I'm well aware but honestly I still love the guy and still think he's a great player unlike a lot of Rangers fans or just hockey fans in general. I'm saying he gets 80 points this year at least :sarcasm:.

Haha, I spent so long defending him here on these boards, I think 5-600 of my posts are defending Nash. Next year you can help out.

Ribeiro is clearly a piece of ****. Maloney is a well-respected guy. He's a classy dude. He flat out came out and talked **** about Ribeiro, warning other GMs not to sign him.

Mike had some real behavior issues last year with us I felt we could not tolerate going forward," General Manager Don Maloney said. "To his credit, he has been getting help this offseason and obviously would hope he continues. But at the end of the year and all the background checking and what happened, we felt that for us to move forward, we couldn't have him a part of this team."

One doesn’t exactly have to squint to read between those lines …

From Maloney:

"We realize this is a fairly significant cost to us, but we also know we have to have certain people and leaders here to make us successful and certain levels of behavior we'll tolerate," Maloney said. "Hey, we all have our issues and no one's an angel. When we're looking at older players, there's certain things we accept and certain things we can't and it doesn't matter how much they make. They have to do the right thing for the organization, and we feel this is the right thing.”

The team gave Ribeiro the term he was seeking, and was confident that he would be on his best behavior under Tippett, for whom he played for in Dallas.

Said Maloney, to the Republic: “We weren't naïve to some of the issues of the past, but we felt it could be manageable and managed," Maloney said. "Obviously, it was a mistake."

The Yotes are taking a $2M cap hit for the next 7 years to get rid of him. Obviously, there's something seriously wrong with this guy.

EDIT: Also, when asked what it's like to be out a number one center, he said "Let's be honest. We were out a number one center for the last 40 games."

No matter how many leaders you have in a locker room, it probably won't help cure Ribeiro's personality issues, marital issues or whatever else he has going on. In Phoenix, the personal problems Ribeiro had leaked over into his professional life - he missed practices and got into a screaming match with Tippett. To bring such a potentially disruptive force into the locker room when lately we've had a bunch of teammates with good character is a step in the wrong direction.

Ott at a contract at 1.5 or less would entice me. He's a 4th liner and would bring experience to the 4th line, in much the same manner that Boyle was able to bring it.

They hated him in Stl. because he was supposed to "play better" coming to a playoff contender and they slotted him on the 3rd line.

Ott on the 4th isn't bad at all. Ott at 1.5 or less isn't bad at all. He's still available. A lot of teams can't spend too much.

Give him 2 years, 3 mill. His performance for Stl. last year hurt him in FA. He was a captain in Buffalo.

Kreider-Stepan-Nash
Hagelin-Miller-MSL
XX-Brassard-Zucc
Ott-Moore-Glass

Now you're only rolling into the season with 2 rookies, a lot more manageable than 3 or 4. The XX will be a rookie. Lindberg, Kristo, Fast, Mueller.
