lol Why would we sign Heatley? We're one of the fastest teams in the NHL.

Man, imagine Heatley, Thornton, MSL, Nash, and Dan Boyle on this team 8 years ago?

So is this the new offseason thread?

Some talk amongst Kings fans that Dwight King will get traded. They have prospects that can fill his role and he might be looking for more than he's worth. He was great in the playoffs. Really big boy and very good defensively. Doesn't use his size as much as you'd like, but he's very, very strong.

If it took a prospect and a 3rd or something I do it.

Why? Don't see a fit or need for him here really.

Could Slats actually be stupid enough to trade one of our RFAs...Brassard, Kreider or Zucc? I certainly hope not, they are the future of this team.

If they fill the LW 3rd line void w a UFA please let it only be a 1 year contract. Bobby Ryan is a UFA next summer and I don't think he will resign with Ottawa.

He could be a trade deadline/UFA target.

We have a salary cap. And a million wingers.

I think the next big move this team makes is for a C - barring Miller becoming an All-Star.

I still think this is our team, barring perhaps a minor move for a 3rd liner.

That's why I said trade deadline next summer when there is more cap space/higher salary cap.

Yeah, I don't see a big move coming this year. I think they slot in some kids and hope for the best. I could see a Staal deal at the deadline depending on the situation. I can't see keeping him past this year with our cap situation. They either deal him or let him walk and use the space to make a run at someone like Krejci.

LOL those trades are horrible for the other team.

We need a Center in addition to Brassard and Stepan not at the expense of them.

Joe Thornton OR Eric Staal (the rumored hypothetical names) would be better than Brassard by alot....

Thornton/Staal
Stepan
Miller
Moore

is a ton better than

Stepan
Brassard
Miller
Moore

either way JT Miller is going to be given a chance to be the 3c this year, I would like someone better than Brassard as the #2. (and again I like Brassard).

It's not about Thornton > Brass
It's about Brass > Miller

It's not about Thornton > Brass
It's about Brass > Miller

When your 1/2 is Thornton/Stepan, JT Miller at #3 is a much easier pill to swallow.

Right now it is:

Stepan
Brassard
Miller

Which to me is worse than the former. Of course there is no guarantee Miller starts the year at 3C, but right now, outside of Lindberg tearing up camp, who else is playing 3C?

Without considering what it would cost to get Thornton (something I'm not really advocating) I'd take the line-up with him in it, over the one without.

I want Evander Kane. I'd be willing to swing Staal+ for him. Not sure Winnipeg would.

But also i'm scared of Evander Kane in New York.

Heatley would be a good powerplay guy with Brassard and Zuccarello :dunno:

The problem right now is that AV doesn't trust Miller at all. So while your top 6 is better, the bottom 6 takes a large hit. The ability to role 4 lines is what got us to the final. Hell, I think Step,Brass,Richards,Moore is better than Step,Thornton,Miller,Moore. The drop off is significant. We need more centers, not less.

That being said, I believe we start the season Step-Brass-Miller in the top 3, pray, and like MacGruber, see what happens. JT needs to reach another level and mature.

How can you take the lineup with him rather than without if you don't consider what you would need to give up? That makes no sense. Sure, if you left the team the way it is now, eliminated the salary cap, and made him the 1C, yeah, the team looks better. But that's not how it works. It costs assets and $ under the cap.

I'd rather just go with Stepan/Brassard/Miller and let them develop. We can make a deal in-season if they don't develop as expected.
