I'd be seriously worried about the defense if we move Staal. John Moore on the 2nd pairing is a sickening thought. Moore-Boyle would just be a nightmare.
maybe the RFAs will take a discount so they can bring back a certain free agent LHD with knowledge of the organization and AV's system... :propeller

God pls no sather. I know you have a fetish for ahgng32+ centers pls dont ****ing sell all those assets for that dude. It's brad richards all over again.

How is it Richards all over again?

Giving up Staal a 27 yo top 2 dman on most teams, Macilrath a Giant tough defenseman, Jt miller a Potential 3rd line center who will get better and other assets for a slow 30+ year old who has played with the same talented guys for years will not be the same.

Who said anything about those other players being part of the deal? No one.

Replacing Stralman with Boyle was an OK plan... so long as we kept Staal.

You lose Staal, and McDonagh and Girardi are back to playing 30 a night.

Nothing wrong at all with moving Staal for Thornton. Thornton is still elite and we have a huge hole at top center. Sure moving Staal will shift that hole to D but we have more defenseman in the system that can be serviceable/more FA available than we do to fix that C spot. Additionally Staal has 1 year on his deal and Thornton has 3. His age really isn't a big deal.

That being said from what I remember from the trade deadline those guys are not legitimate at all.

@acall04: Doug Wilson asking for Brassard, Staal, and a first. Sather refusing to part with Brassard, trying to unload Krieder.

The guy working with @nhlrumorsdaily had this. He's admittedly a Devils fan, but on what planet would anyone try to unload Kreider?

He did later say that Kreider not on table, but there's no way this was ever accurate.

He's saying now that Thornton is trying to buy Kovalchuk's house in Alpine, NJ why else would he try to buy it unless he's coming to NY lol

Yeah, this guy is worse than Eklund.

rofl "trying to unload Kreider."

lolol

Yeah, that's legitimate.

Also, what first 2016? Someone tweet him and tell him to shut up.

The same posters shooting down the possibility of getting Thorton or Staal, are mostly the same ones who were shooting the St. Louis trade.

The St. Louis deal was getting leaked by more legit sources than NHLrumorsdaily or whatever the **** it's called.

Um, what is "NHLRumorsDaily." Is that even a legitimate source?

He's a 15 year old kid. He's a rangers fan, but he's just a kid. He and rumorbreak, or whatever his name is, constantly bicker back and forth. They sit on twitter and wait for a major media outlet to report breaking news, and then they paraphrase it without citing sources. Just ignore it.

Someone ask boomer if anything is going on, so he can tweet out more cryptic messages. :sarcasm:

Hmm, if we were going after JT for Staal, I would have thought that you then use Brass to try and bring in a ~$2-3m d man to replace Staal. You'd still have a bottom 6 with Miller and Moore as pivots which isn't great, but a top 6 of Thornton/Stepan is much better than Stepan/Brassard

Can we afford Thornton? Meaning both in Cap and trade assets. I feel like our cupboard is a bit bare lol. With Stralman gone, I'm sketchy on giving up Staal.

Unless Moore has a huge jump in development, having him on the 2nd pairing would not be fun.

We can, but it would take another toll just like the Nash trade. We also can go 10% over the cap during the summer, so we'd have time to figure out more moves.

If the offer is Staal/Fast for Thornton, you absolutely do that. Though you should think about the options. What would it take to get Sharp? If cheaper, take that route.

Kreider-Thornton-Nash is one big line that compete and dominate almost any line in the NHL.

Kreider-Thornton-Nash
Hagelin-Stepan-St.Louis
Miller-Brassard-Zuccarello
Glass-Moore-Carcillo

G-McD
Moore/McIlrath/Allen/UFA/Trade-Boyle
Moore-Klein

Hopefully if they swing a trade for Thornton they could get a defenseman as well from San Jose, maybe Matt Irwin? Left handed defenseman doesn't exactly put up points but is solid defensively. Thornton and Irwin for Staal/Fast or Kristo and TB 2nd? I'd absolutely do that.

Available UFAs that I'd like:

Loktionov
Penner
P-M Bouchard
Booth
Ribeiro (if we can fit him)
Bissonnette (if he comes very cheaply)

UFAs that we need to stay the hell away from:

Ott
Any goon not named Bissonnette
Ott
Morrow
Heatley
R. Carter
Ott
Ott
Steve Ott

I think its not as much Moore but McIlrath/Allen. If the Org believes theyre ready, you make that move. If not, try and find a cheap defenseman to fill that hole. Still a move I'd make 10/10 times. Thornton and Nash have unbelievable chemistry, and he is absolutely a #1 C.

I'm not being specific to this particular rumor, rather, the acquisition of either Thorton or Eric Staal, who would make the Rangers infinitely better.

I don't think you've paid any attention to what Eric Staal has been doing recently if you think he'd be a big improvement. Also, there's a salary cap so they're not getting him.
