I remember you guys having a similar attachment to Nemec / Casey around the time of the Meier trade, but at some point you have to go into win-now mode.

Do you think Nemec does more to help you win a cup in the next 3 years than Miller?

As someone who likes your team but only follows casually, this seems like a total no brainer to me. Especially if the talk of trading Hamilton in the offseason to make room for Nemec are true. That seems like crazy talk to me.

it would be brutal asset management.

Hamilton is absolutely cooked. I would trade him for free right now if I could just get outta his contract

You guys have an ancient Markstrom in net (older than JT Miller btw). Not trying to compete during this window would be a mistake.

"any of our top 3 D prospects" is hilarious btw. I get that NJD have some killer defensive prospects, but most team's 3rd best D prospect is a literal-who nothing burger of a player.

and the Devils aren't most teams? So what is even your point?

They ARE competing. They are a top 5-7 team in the league right now. That doesn't mean we should dump a former #2 overall pick for anything that moves.

Anything that moves loool. JT is 11th overall in points scored since 2020...

I personally don't want to move JT Miller, but you really should be open to trading a guy like Nemec for him.
Dude is a literal Chad. Our fans chant his name. Your window will have long-passed by the time Nemec elicits that kind of response.

if JT Miller is so amazing, why do the Canucks want to seemingly dump him so badly?

They are not going to get a premium asset if he is traded. I'm almost certain of it.

The Devils aren't trading for Miller, it's being framed as leverage to up the price on the Rags which are a more likely destination. Also Vancouver fans are funny thinking they'll land Nemec for that disgusting term if he somehow does end up here. Devils are not wasting 23M in cap in Dougie, Palat and Miller this year along with 2 out of those 3 guys probably being on the roster next year. Mercer would probably go in that package not a cheap ELC they need.

Nemec doesn't have to be elite for the Devils to win the Cup lmao

JT is so much easier to move, also the better player. I will be SO surprised if Petterson is traded. First year of 93million contract and you think he gets traded, need to fire the GM first and get one who can pull the trigger on that.

Opposite is actually true. Miller has a full NMC and currently Petts has no trade protection. Far easier to move Petts.

Comical overpayment by New Jersey.

We know Nemec's value based on the Jiricek trade (prospect, 1st, 2nd and 3rd) and I'm honestly not even sure I'd pay alone that for Miller right now.

The only reason Miller is even said to be available is because of said issues. Otherwise a futures-laden package is nowhere close to enough for a 100-point C.

The Devils instantly become the Cup favorites if they land him for Nemec, picks, and a cap dump like Haula. No one can contend with a top six of Hughes, Miller, Bratt, Hischier, Meier and Palat/Mercer. That's a wrap for the rest of the league.

He also has 29 points in 34 games this year, so him hitting 100 points last year doesn't matter.

Man, I had no idea it was that bad. Thought he was just having an off game when SJ has played the Devils. What happened? Did his injury do him in?

Kinda? He shoots but not at the same rate as he did or even effectiveness. He's also been brutal with Dillon this year as a third pair. It's just not worth the money to have a 13M 3rd d pair when they have Nemec/Casey brewing in the AHL.

It bears repeating: I remember when people were talking shit about Rick Rypien’s attitude and commitment in a season where he took some leave and was distracted. The entitlement some people have - and their certainty in proclaiming what’s unfolding - is a bad look. Pretty surprised folks aren’t more circumspect.

I know people are drawing obvious lines between this rumor, and the disgruntled Nemec stuff.

But the Canucks have Hronek and Willander as long term top 4 RD options.

We need an LD.

That said, I suspect that if we deal with Jersey it's going to be Mercer and a 1st included, along with something to balance cap and perhaps a secondary prospect who isn't Casey, Silayev, or Nemec.
