It's great that Roy gets a shot, but this team won't be consistent until we have a serviceable center to play behind Suzuki. This is the real reason this team is not doing better than it is. Dvorak and Evans are okay as bottom 6 centers and nothing more and I suggest that if Dach can't fill the role the Habs make a trade for one, someone on an expiring contract. I don't think anyone would argue that wins are important for development.

To all the old-timers here, isn't it something that we find ourselves sucking yet again at the center ice position? It's been forever since we had two good centers.
We need Dach so badly to get his $hit together, or make a deal for a 2nd line C.
Evans and Dvo are 3-4 centres.

Dach...............or make a deal.........

Ya he's clearly been doing that with the habs for the last 5 years.....oh wait , he became a pro only last year
He did it in junior as well.

I think sending him down should be motivation enough. He needed a kick in the ass and he got it. Let's hope this lights a fire under him.
There will be a time when he cannot be sent down, then what?

Maybe they didn't see his game on Friday night.
He did have a good game Saturday and he did have that one back check that may have saved a goal. :sarcasm:
It feels like we are grasping at straws a bit.

I can't believe the media are also hyping RHP's eventual return saying it will give MSL more munitions. :skeptic:
Both he and Pezz can go on waivers as far as I'm concerned.
I'm still not sure why we didn't buy trade or steal an upgrade on Pezz in the first place.
If you can't bring in your extra forward to spark a team on occasion you have the wrong 13th forward plain and simple.
I am not questioning whether or not he is playing well, he is. As I said I question whether he will go into I've arrived mod like he did pre season. Things are going well because of hard work, I would let him continue the momentum.

The handling of Pezzetta is a head scratcher, show the kid some respect and allow him to look for employment elsewhere. Ridiculous
Of all the things to gripe about, the handling of
Pezz is pretty low. He’s a 13th, 14th, 15th forward at best.

So two snipers with a centre that also likes to shoot, and three playmakers together.

Put Slaf back with Cole and Nick. Give Dach Laine and Roy. Or at the very least, let Cole play with Dach and give Nick the two giant wingers.
100% this.

There’s a reason Roy was a 5th rounder, avg pace and questionable work ethic….. yet he’s viewed as a 1st rounder …
when he was traded during his draft season, he realized that he was in a very bad shape compared to his new teammates. During the summer and the next season, he lost 25 pounds. Questionable work ethic ? before he was traded yes.

I don’t like that precedent at all. When Drouin was late for a meeting but took full responsibility, did we excuse him? No of course not. I know Dachs your guy but his effort level has been putrid all season and it’s not due to his injury. He should definitely sit at least one game. Slaf should also join him too but I doubt they’d both get scratched at the same time.

I think missing practice and just being bad in game are two different principles.

All I'm saying is. He called himself out. I want to see how he responds to that. If he comes out flat in period 1. I'd have no problem stapling him to the bench and scratching him for another game.

You said the words but didn't back it up. So now we have an issue to address.

Roy clearly knows the stakes. He isn't guaranteed anything and he's put in the work in Laval. While we might still see him regress, he and the team are in places that make is call-up appropriate.

IF Roy can provide consistent scoring and effort, its huge for the habs, not just because they add another middle six guy, but because he's one more hat in the ring for playing time. Slaf, Dach, Newhook, etc all have to compete when there's less to go around. I think if Roy can stick in the NHL this year, it will help the internal competition & accountability a lot.

Give him 3 games so Dach, Slaf, and Newhook can all take turns getting scratched

Newhook is playing his ass off. He just hasn't had much luck, no need to bench him.

Slaf is putting in the least effort by a wide margin.....I would seriously consider sitting him as the multiple benchings haven't even fazed him at all.

I think Pez should get a game before they waive him just because you know he's going to come out with some serious energy after sitting for this long

But I agree, if we lose him for nothing it's inconsequential
What exactly do you think Pezzetta will do? He hits sometimes when he doesn’t have to and is caught behind the play. Can’t pass can’t shoot just hustles. His energy isn’t relevant

I think a message was already sent earlier in the season when he didn’t go in the shootout after like 15 shooters. I’m sure he’s aware of how bad he’s been and has talked to Marty about it privately. Not sure why going public should get him another chance if they were going to scratch him before he said that.

Exactly this and it's also the reason we've never been able to have two productive lines in any given season.
Teams need a consistent first line and one of the second or third lines producing at the same time to be effective.
It takes a minimum of three good to very good centers and six decent to very decent wingers.
I don't think we have even half of that when you consider redundancy in size speed strength and talent.

He's not playing smart - but strong disagree that it is from no effort.
If anything he is putting too much pressure from large contract.

Cause you want to see how he responds to the message he sent himself. If I think a fire is lit, I'm gonna see if it is. If it was performative then the benching plus scratching will send a bigger message than just outright scratching and potentially snuffing something that you've been waiting to be lit.

A message he sent to himself during media availability is gonna be the fire starter? C’mon.
