Honestly....I think the problem wasn't the $$, but rather the term. This is more speculation on my part, but we now know the rumors of 4/$112 being offered is false and we also know AA is high on Riley ("needs more time in the majors").

My speculation is seeing how long it took Donaldson took to sign, I think he really wants to stay with the Braves, but 2 years (plus option) was the most they'd offer. Probably something like 2/$60.

...and I hate Liberty Media as much as any Braves fan...

Well, yeah, but it was also after a historically good start. And it was also his first year.
I don't mean that AA is done making any moves (I think he's in on Bryant depending on the ruling). I also think getting a big bat in the OF (Ozuna?) instead and having Riley/Camargo at 3rd is a strong possibility.
