It will be extra cool as our son, who was/is a hockey player was a HUGE Doan fan back in the day.

Tomorrow I will taking our grandson to the game explaining why seeing Josh Doan in his 1st NHL game is a bit of our family hockey history.

Actually that's how Shane Doan got credit for coming up with the popular new system to prevent tanking. He wasn't happy to see Josh cheering for losses so he proposed that once a team is mathematically eliminated, the teams with the best winning percentage pick in that order. Unfortunately, Shane didn't think that one through as that system wouldn't work despite it sounding like a great alternative.

Seems like it would work. Bad teams are eliminated early because teams that almost make the playoffs will have very few points, bad teams should win enough games in their last 20 games (4 or 5) to get enough pts to stay ahead of those teams that tried to make the playoffs.
