Spence just got sent down to the AHL again after getting into 44 games with the Kings this year.

It appears he's been passed by Clarke on the depth chart now.

If LA was looking to move the kid, what kind of return would they be looking for?

If they are not going to sign Roy then he gets that spot and would not be available. Only if they keep Roy would they consider moving Spence.

He will be a fixture next year.

He was sent down to play tonight, he will be recalled tomorrow. He is not available.

I dont know LA depth/ injuries but I dont view him bring sent DC iwn as a failure. Hr can be sent ffg poi an and a play being waiver exempt.

If kings dont resign or trade Roy, then he likely comes back up and is spot saved for AHL if kings are out of playoffs but ahl is in.

What did Calen Addison go for? A 5th round pick and contract slot dump?

So...a bit less than that, as he's even less established. Spence may be a little bit better defensively, but he's not likely to emerge as a Spurgeon-like tiny shutdown defenceman either, and doesn't necessarily appear to have the same sort of bonus powerplay upside.

It's not even like the Kings would gain anything by swapping him for a comparable value/situation Forward. Doubtful that would be a real upgrade on anything that they already have in-house, so they'd probably be buried as well.

It really just doesn't make any sense at all for the Kings to move him for what little he'd actually return. Spence might have some minimal value to Playoff teams as an extra layer of "buried depth" that can actually play NHL minutes...but that puts him in the same sphere as a world of other veteran "journeymen" types who are also buried. Which means he's probably just got far more value as "buried depth" for the Kings than anyone else.

If they decide to move him, around the draft or free agency, or even the fall in camp probably makes more sense if they don't want to play him...and know more about whether they'll still have Roy at RHD or not.

Brendan Guhle hasn't been on an NHL roster for over a year. You could get him whenever you want.

It's jest, but honestly...it's not that terribly far off in reality.

You guys are far off the mark. Addison is terrible defensively and is not a comparable. Spence has been better for us than Durzi was, and Durzi brought an early second rounder.

The Kings will probably wait to see what happens with Roy before deciding if to move Spence.

i dont think he has much value but he'll likely be a throw in on a bigger trade than sold off by himself.

Pre-McLellan-firing we would have seen Spence be treated similarly to the way Vilardi was: packaged with other pieces for a big name player. Think something like Spence, Kaliyev, 1st for Chychrun.

But now with ownership preventing Blake from making more moves, Spence will probably stay. He’s better than Durzi but hasn’t put up flashy numbers like Durzi did so I doubt he’d return more than a 3rd or late 2nd which would be a mistake by the Kings.
