With the NHL trade deadline looming the Sabres and Greenway agreed to a two-year extension worth approximately $4 million per season.

To me too, though I'm probably more glad they kept him on balance. I also don't have expectations they would have otherwise used that cap space wisely, or maybe even more likely, at all.

I also personally expect a lot of deals going forward to seem like overpays to me based on the rising cap.

I'm not too concerned, I can rationalize out the Buffalo tax they are constantly paying. But at some point they need someone at market value (or better).

I like Greenway as a defensive player and PKer. The nights when he's moving people around like a bulldozer are great - his game against the Rangers for example. The sleepy nights seem fewer and far between but they're there. For a team that is bulging with small players who don't go into traffic and don't engage in battles, I'm fine with keeping him around.

He's an actual day in day out NHL caliber player and the sabres need about 10 more of these

If he can stay healthy I'd love to see him get some more minutes with the skill guys. He can create space for the others and seems smart enough to at least gel with them without holding anyone back.

Seems to me like Greenway and McLeod have formed a pretty solid pair when they've played together.....which makes some sense given that their skills are quite complementary.

I'm perhaps quibbling over a very small amount of money as @My Cozen Dylan pointed out. I like the AFP figure, it's less than $115K more to get t $4M from there.
