If Korpisalo gets the next game and wins, Sacco needs to give him back to back starts.
And now that he didn’t and it looked the same with bad play and defensive breakdowns in front of the goalie, where do they go?If Korpisalo gets the next game and wins, Sacco needs to give him back to back starts.
But Carlo and Coyle are untouchable and cant be traded lol.People need to admit that the goalies aren't the issue here. Dominik Hasek in his prime couldn't save this team.
Worst offensive team in the NHL and people want to point fingers at the two goalies? No pressure on them to perform at all. They basically can't make a mistake.
They were also 30 goals saved above average last year as a tandem so they saved the defense on many occasions. I think Korpi is playing very well overall.People need to admit that the goalies aren't the issue here. Dominik Hasek in his prime couldn't save this team.

Fire the guy who didn't have the sack to trade Swayman last year and has failed every move he's done this year. And now that he didn’t and it looked the same with bad play and defensive breakdowns in front of the goalie, where do they go?

Its easy and lazy to complain about the goalies instead of articulating the constant breakdowns on the defensive end. Like I've said many times in this and the Sway thread, it doesn't matter who they put in net, this roster is deeply flawed and prevents them from being a viable contender.I don't have an issue with either goalie this year. Swayman's been lit up by top teams but I blame the defensive play there for the most part. Without the efforts of Swayman (no one wants to talk about the games he's won) and Korpisalo, the Bruins would be dead last in the NHL. I do agree Swayman needs to be better than he's shown at his salary but people need to stop acting like he's Cayden Primeau.
How many defensive breakdowns can you find in the 2011 cup run alone? Of course the team has more issues than just the goalies, but to absolve them completely is crazy. The same people gaslighting before the season about how Swayman can be a great starting goalie because his stats and win against Toronto are now saying it’s not the goalies fault. Its easy and lazy to complain about the goalies instead of articulating the constant breakdowns on the defensive end. The best goalies in the league today have similar GAA and save percentages than goalies back then. I don’t think you can point to any stats that show more offense. Last year was pretty similar to 2009-2010 in goals scored. And expectations are a bit out of whack for the goalies to begin with. We don't see it as much watching mostly Bruins games, but go around the league, goalies are getting destroyed by defensive breakdowns and are getting beaten clean with quality shots, it's a shooters league now. Maybe we see it more up here in Canada where our sports networks typically show highlights of every NHL game.
Sweeney and Neely have completely ignored the way the league has shifted towards a higher offense, strong shooting league.
This league is nothing like it was in 2011. Not remotely relevant.

This team has more talent than the 09-10 team on offense. I’d say 2010 had a better defense and goalies. There’s no reason this team can’t be as stingy on defense as that team. Tuukka didn’t give up when the other team scored first.Do you think this is a good team?
Do you think this team has anywhere close to the talent level of the 2011 team?

Sure, the way goals are scored might be different but the stats are pretty similar. Swayman’s stats this year are terrible for any modern era. Goalies adapt to the offense who adapt to the goalies.Just watch the games and see how a lot of goals are scored now. Totally different league.

No one was talking about this the last two years when Ullmark and Swayman had great stats. Connor Hellebuyck is having the best season of his career in his 10th year pro. How is that possible if the offense is getting so unstoppable? You’re ignoring how goalies are at a much bigger disadvantage now with the capability of shooters in today's game. What are they supposed to do to adapt? Pucks are coming off sticks at a much more consistent rate, with more accuracy, and the releases are near impossible at times for the goalies to read, especially for elite shooters. The stick technology today is nuts. Far beyond what it was even 10 years ago, let alone 15. We have a generation of players now who have grown up using longer sticks with lower flexes and know how to get the most out of these weapons.

Players like Stamkos and Ovechkin made a living off one timers before Scheifle was in the league. All of this doesn’t account for the fact that Swayman is an outlier among goalies this year and the Bruins didn’t change much of their defense in the offseason.Because you can still play solid defense even if offenses have evolved. And there are still opposing teams that don't have much in the way of offensive ability to boost those numbers. Lack of shooting ability isn't exclusive to the Bruins. Even the past two years, the Bruins racked up a lot of points by shutting down weaker teams. Their 2nd half last year wasn't exactly stellar.
Hellebuyck didn't look so hot when he had to face MacKinnon/Rantanen/Makar in a playoff series coming at him rush after rush.
I've been posting here for years about how the Bruins need more quality shooters to give their offense more dimensions.
I'd argue goalies have never been more reliant on the defensive play in front of them for their overall numbers. You give today's shooters open looks or one-timers going east-west and the goalies don't have much of a chance outside of pure luck. Those two one-timers Scheifile scored on Tuesday, when Swayman comes across his chances of stopping that puck is 50/50. Scheifle doesn't know where its' going and neither does Swayman.
The average goals against has gone up about half-a-goal per game in the past 4 years when compared to 2010-2017. That may not seem like much but it's massive.
You basically had the opposite argument when it came to Krejci after he signed that contract even though he always put up good numbers with terrible linemates. If he was putting up 30 points in 82 games I would have agreed with you. It’s easy and lazy to complain about the goalies instead of articulating the constant breakdowns on the defensive end. The 2011 team was better at every position, yes. Wouldn’t it make more sense to compare this team to last year’s team? But I didn't ask about the 09-10 team. I asked about the 11 team that won the cup.
I don’t think Swayman is the only reason this season has been such a drop off from last season, but on paper the biggest change from last season to this season is getting rid of Ullmark and making Swayman the starter on pace to play 15+ more games then he’s ever played in his career. Lindholm hasn’t been great but is that the reason their defense and GAA sucks? Probably not.Two players. In a league with over 700. Go look at Pasta, he wasn't this one-timer machine when he broke in 10 years ago.
Bruins certainly did change how they defended this season under Monty. More aggressive forecheck, more of a hybrid style in the defensive zone. Sacco has gone back to the zone D and a more passive forecheck. But against the stronger faster teams like Winnipeg that is harder to pull off successfully. They've only played one strong offensive team since Monty was fired.
You want to point the fingers at Swayman as the reason this season is going off the rails, go ahead. I think the blame is misplaced. Bruins need to play better defensively against the better teams, because they sure as shit can't afford to get into a track-meet with this putrid offense.
