Will be interesting to see what he has left at this point after missing so much time. Realistically he should slot in on the fourth line and be able to step up if there’s an injury. Assuming he can stay healthy.
Seems like a low risk move but not a ton of upside except for his leadership.

I figured if he signed in Montreal, he'd likely be at the Jake Evans kind of level, ie really good 4th line C. If he's that or better, Winnipeg gets a win out of this.

Very unlikely he can be a 2C at this point and time in his career.

If he does kudos to him, but he was declining before the long COVID. At 37 years old its unlikely he can be a big time player for a contending team.

Do you know how hard it is for the Jets to make moves to build? Seriously - look through the history of our July 1st signings. There’s nobody notable. We can target whoever we want, they aren’t going to sign here, so they his may be the first and only chance we ever get at attracting UFA talent. I’d wager and hope that the Jets have a chance to fill at least one extra void on July 1st thanks to Toews, and hopefully he can teach this team how to think like winners. This is the best thing that Chevy could’ve done to improve the team’s chances.

Yeah, the wording of the signing is strange. Doesn't say he's signing as a player. Maybe he'll be their new wellness guru.

Jets have a bit of a unique situation for their middle-6. Lowry tends to play C on a line that gets 2nd line minutes. Namestnikov centers the other middle-6 line. Toews will likely fit into that 2-3C role that Namestnikov has been playing. It's not far-fetched to think he might improve the roster overall.

It's not like this was a bad team the last couple of seasons, so this probably just adds some stability and experience to the roster. If he is rejuvenated and play at an effective 2C level, that's a bonus.
