Confirmed Signing with Link: [WPG] F Jonathan Toews signs with the Jets (1 year, $2M + $5M performance bonuses)

With Lowry out at the start of the season he will have a chance to proof he has something left in the tank. Good opportunity for him and the team.

Lowry is out until atleast November so i think the hope is that he can slide into the 3C spot for the time being and go from there. Gonna be fun seeing all those Toews Jets jerseys! Awesome story. Even more so if he can contribute in a meaningful way. Heres hoping!

Honestly shocked. I was wrong on that one.

I think he comes in as a strong 2C for the Jets
As a diehard Blackhawks fan and Toews fan I would love this, but I really think you should temper your enthusiasm. That is pretty high expectations for a guy returning after being out for 2 yrs with long term covid and even before that showing the effects of lots of game mileage and being 37yrs old. I am just happy to see him play the game he loves once again and anything after that is a bonus

With Lowry out for 1-2 months to start the year Toews will likely get a shot at 3C to start with. If he looks good he has a shot at taking the 2C spot, if not no harm done. Jets gave up zero assets to get him and have plenty of cap space to work with so it's not a massive gamble. If things work out we can look at a 2nd contract.

Expectation for me is a bottom 6 C that can be a good mentor in the room anything more is a plus.

We need a leader in the room to get this team over the hump, Toews could be that guy. I don’t have outrageous hopes, but maybe Toews has recovered to a point where he can contribute meaningfully. Maybe Patrick Kane signs too, and we can have a veteran/champion calibre 4th line.

Hope he can hold down the 3C till Lowry gets back from surgery then be a very good 4C.....That is the hope anymore is just a pipe dream.

The Jets do not see him as a 2C that is crazy

I see it as:

Ceiling: Solid 3C
Likely: Bottom six center who can add depth and experience
Floor: Fourth line depth center

Cost will likely be very minimal so pretty much no risk here.

Any notion of “well his upside could be as a 2C” is so far out there that it isn’t even really worth considering”. He was a 40 point center 4 seasons ago. That’s just dreamland.
