Value of: Jonathan Huberdeau for a top pairing defenseman

Honestly I don’t think trading him is out of the question if they can get a top pairing stud defenseman and more for him. Hubs has reached career highs this year and his trade value is at an all time high right now. You will never get more for him than right now.

What are your offers?

Huberdeau just finished tied for 2nd in points and is signed for another year at 5.9 million. I think if he were available, a team like the Avs or Hurricanes would go all in on acquiring him and would pay the necessary haul required to complete a deal, but at the same time trading him would signify the start of a retool/rebuild when Florida’s time is still right now. It just doesn’t make any sense for them to back off now when they’re so heavily invested in this being their Stanley Cup window.

Complete overreaction, Huberdeau isn't going to be moved. Florida already has one of the best top pairing in the entire NHL too

I hope you’re not talking about Weegar.

Huberdeau won’t go anywhere but Weegar should

Ah yes the classic 11 game sample size vs 82 game sample size argument

Nah, basing it for the entire year.

When Weegar makes an mistake he makes a brutal one.

No way would I sign him longterm to what he’d want

Moving Huberdeau isn't as farfetched as it sounds, because he might be asking for too much to re-sign.

If we were going to move him, I would prefer a shoot first goal scorer. We have too many setup guys as it is.

problem wasn’t defense ….it was forward scoring.

you are not getting any top D for a 1 yr rental winger.

Sure…logic is perfectly fine.

big problem….it appears this off-season you are going to have a flooded winger market

Fiala
Miller/Boesser
Foresberg is a UFA
Pasternik??? Could Boston move him and Marchand as a retool/ rebuild if Bergeron leaves/ retires
Detroit has a couple 1 yr to UFA in Bertuzziand Larkin
some cap tight teams may look to unload wingers with 1 yr left
Patches has 1 yr left in Vegas and they need cap space.

then there are the 2 yr left players like nylander or Scheiffle

other teams want to have cap pace open for Aho/Matthews in 2024

You don't just trade players because you can't get more for them than what you can get right now. The only way you move him is when negotiations break down and you feel you can't re-sign him.
