Jonathan Dahlen, back to Sweden, to Timrå, again...how strange

He didn't receive a qualifying offer from the Sharks - a team that struggled to score last season.

Not sure how many NHL teams were interested in him.

Had success with Timra (albeit in Allsvenskan).

Probably more suited to playing in Europe.

He has money (from his father) and with what Timrå pays him he can set himself up for a good life on his own as well.

If he wins the SHL with Timrå he'll become a legend, something that won't happen if he stays NHL.
He can also spend some time every day outdoors, fishing, hunting, trekking, skiing etc.

If I got to pick between being an AHL/NHL tweener or a first line player in the SHL I'd take the latter disregarding the economical side.

He might've put up a decent amount of points, but his work ethic was nonexistent and was horrible defensively. Pretty much the polar opposite of his dad.

First line players in the SHL make a really good living, and the tax situation is sometimes more favorable to players there than in the AHL.

Salary Expectations

Also shorter schedule and quality of life in Sweden vs. riding the bus and dealing with a longer schedule in the AHL.

He has a special relationship with that club. Like Jagr and Kladno maybe he's partly invested in it also?

Dahlen definitely has talent and is a great hockey player, but his talents are that of a point scoring winger and he just isn't at that high of a level to be that in the NHL. And like other said, he D was not great, so signing to be bottom six in the NHL is just a bad match.

I was a bit surprised, given Dahlen's start last year, how much he fell off and on the other side how much Linus Karlsson improved.

Swedish teams are owned by their members, cost between 10-70 $ to become a member. When things go bad you can go to the yearly meeting a fire the whole board.

You can run your club as a company but 51% of the stock must be controlled by the members. So I guess he could be a minority owner but that's not the case with Timrå.

He wanted a one-way contract in the NHL, no one offered him that. It was also rumoured that he looked at the possibility to play in Switzerland. I'm surprised they didn't offer him enough cash to sign there, he's talented enough IMHO. He might've gotten an offer but he then said no in favor of Timrå.

Timrå and him got a special bond, so I'm not surprised that he chose them.

The fans got together and donated 600,000 SEK in order to help the club get enough money to sign him (Timrå is a small club with limited finances). Kind of cool if you ask me. You do not see stuff like that in the NHL.

Wasn't good enough for the NHL. Wouldn't play in a lower league in NA.

Timra is his hometown, in which he's already a fan favourite there, with family connections. Nothing strange at all.

He’s got some skill but seems to lack the hunger or drive to round out his overall game to be an everyday NHL player.

As a semi-fat dude, my body has a built-in blanket for the winter. It also has a built-in blanket for the summer, but I don’t like that as much.
Reminds me of the good old joke about how fat women are the best because they give you heat in the winter and shade in the summer.
