This was just yesterday from JT: "Yes, I'd like to be, for sure. I try to not think about it a whole lot. Obviously, I'm getting closer to the end of this contract but I've always stated how much I love being in New York and being an Islander, how well people have treated me here and the organization as a whole. We've had something good building here the last couple of years and I'd love to see it through. When that time comes, I want something to work out where both sides are happy and I remain with this team. Really good times are ahead for the franchise and I want to keep contributing to that and doing my part."

He isn't going anywhere. Enough already.

You're naive if you think he wouldn't have said that, regardless of his true feelings.

Still, I do agree that speculation about a player leaving his team at the end of contract, like, 18 months BEFORE the contract expires, must stop.

But then again, Toronto media needs attention.

He most likely isn't but not because of that quote.

While he wouldn't never badmouth the Org., he doesn't have to come out GLOWINGLY about the Franchise. He could just give some generic BS response saying he is taking it one day at a time or 18 months is a while away.

He has always said the same thing that he loves it here and wants to stay here.

He could say that but that would be pretty dumb on his part.

"I hate it here and can't wait to leave. This will be a long last couple years."

- said no player ever

Us Islander fans really should have listened last season when you guys told us to trade Hamonic as soon as possible, because the longer he stayed on the trade market the lower his value got. When we had to settle for Fayne+4th a lot of us were kicking ourselves for not getting Eberle back when he was on the table.

Now, I really hope we've learned our lesson. Tavares is leaving as a UFA 100%, and we need to get three mediocre assets back for him as early as humanly possible. Can anyone put together a package containing a 34-year-old veteran, a career AHLer, and a conditional 2nd and please please please just give us the bare minimum value for our franchise player?

It's not the first time he's said this too.
"I think I've always showed my commitment, my appreciation and my desire to play on Long Island," Tavares told Sportsnet 590. "I would love for that to continue for the long haul. I think you look at some of the greatest players in the game have been able to spend their entire career somewhere. I hope I'm in that same position."

But this is just code for him bolting to Toronto.

We also should listen in on the fact that Vesey said he would sign with NSH and didn't so we should expect the same for JT.

I mean, Vesey was captain of the Preds for so long, signed two contracts with them, led the team in the playoffs, was the face of the franchise etc so if he did it then we know Tavares will too.

People aren't saying that here. Using a players comments to the media as the be all end all is meaningless. Tavares is to much of a professional to say anything bad about the organization. That being said I think Tavares signs with the Islanders again.

What players state to the media while under contract means absolutely nothing. Will JT resign in NY, no clue.....wait and see.

While I agree, he didn't have to give such a GUSHING comment about how he hopes both sides work something out that is beneficial to each and wanting to spend his whole career here etc..

I'm still trying to figure out how does this can be reply to my post.

.... Because there's absolutely no way this is remotely pertaining to what I've said.

Even if he wanted to leave, he would be dumb to say anything different.

If he said something like, "We'll see what happens when the contract is up.", it would make next season even more of a media circus than it already will be.

I didn't really think there was strong enough speculation Tavares would leave Long Island that the notion needed to be repudiated.
Mind you I also don't follow the media much and when I do I don't take the rumor mongers seriously, I understand they have a pay check they need to try to justify and that's how they do it.

Woah woah woah.

Tavares you might get because he's totally bolting from the Islanders but Price is guaranteed to resign in Montreal at a team-friendly discount. Several Habs fans have confirmed this to be accurate in the many "Tavares to MTL" threads.

I knew 100% when this thread was posted that people would come in with the same old "that means nothing, of course he's gonna say that, he's just lying he still wants to test UFA".

We'll see in early July. If Tavares sticks to what he's said in the press, he'll do a Hedman and resign with the Isles a year before his contract runs out. If he starts making excuses why he hasn't resigned, then ya'll can start frothing at the mouth over getting JT for whatever pile of meh you want to call fair value.
