The problem with Tavares is rarely to do with points though. It's how impactful he is on an average 5 on 5 shift or how he's fitting in with the flow of the rest of the team, with his salary cap hit factored in. People like to blame William Nylander for his struggles, but a good though experiment is just imagine Nylander on the Colorado Avalanche or Tavares on the Colorado Avalanche. Who fits into that run and gun, attack style game?

Avs beat 1 legit team. They are same pretenders they alays were and Tampa is gunna expose them

I don't necessarily disagree, but I think it's also important to bear in mind 50 of Tavares' points came at even strength. For comparison, Nylander's was around 49, all while Tavares took important faceoffs, was far and away more physical, did more dirty work in front of the net, blocked more shots, and drew more penalties.

I think Nylander is better value for the money, but he benefits more from looking at points and offensive statistics than Tavares, whom you can make an argument does more when he isn't scoring.

I do agree, though, that when you watch a fast, dynamic team like Colorado, JT's footspeed leaves a lot to be desired. This is probably going to sound like I'm a big defender of that contract, lol, but I'm not.

If JT isn't spending his summer conditioning, working on the skating and laying off the Portuguese custards there will be hell to pay.

He was playing at 215lbs last year, he needs to be around 200 to even attempt to keep up in this league. Double chin Captain is not a good look.

He is overpaid- Here is the list of forwards who make at least $11M who had less points than JT

No one

Okay here is the list of forwards making $9M who had less points than JT Min 72 games played

Kopitar
Seguin
Benn
Skinner

He is overpaid for what he brings and his role.

Okay so by your logic he’s overpaid by 1 million. Stop bitching. That 1 million would do f*** all

Avs is not just about speed

-they play fast ( taking quick decision) ---they work really hard
-they are agressive on forecheck
-they finishing their check
- they taking hit
-they backcheck hard
- fighting to win their 1on1 battle

Nylander is fast and playing fast

tavares the only thing he dont do on that list is being fast...

Nylander would be in colorado
Last hit by/60
18 th in Blocked shot

So overal i think Jt would be a better fit in any team in the NHL
I don't get why Nylander has to be both Alexander Mogilny and Eric Lindros at the exact same time to stay out of people's mouth.

I remember when we traded for Alexander Suglobov and Toronto threw a parade like we won a cup because it was the first time in ages any scouting report said the player has hands .

Nylander is A+ at his job and is still getting better season to season. Best is still yet to come. 8 other roster spots to balance it out with. You act like any player can wake up and just decide "hey, I am going to make my specialty be putting up points for my team". Yeah, no. Points specialists don't grow on trees for you to cast away. These guys are what separate the best teams from middle of the pack

don't worry about it , Willie is just the latest player on a long list that's been thrown under the bus to deflect from JT's shortcomings , if Willie is traded JT's new linemates will be next on the block

and guaranteed thusk is a friend or family member of Tavares

Our very own captain Tavvy will totally kill it next season  He out there in the fields and ready. Training hard. Maybe this summer him and simmonds won't call up the guys to the cabin no more... cause simmonds might be gone for life, but still. Tavares will regroup his guys and win it all next season. That'll be fun

The Cap went flat.
3 11 million dollar players is no longer feasible (wasn’t the smartest plan in the first place) and hasn’t been for some time.

nylander can score stanley cup winning goal off a rebound into open net and this guy will sit in a corner all mad because it wasn't a snipe instead.

Nylander brings results in the playoffs. That's all that matters. When his GM learns to build around these guys better then you'll see

If you withdraw every seco d assist he had and just watchibg his teammate doing play and withdraw goal he scored last 10 with 3 goal, or with a 4 goal deficit. I dont want to see one of my best player score when the game almost over but when the team need it

Im agree i dont care how he score but when his real impact is so low and look closer of luck than work/skill ... thats where i have a problem with

5 goal 2 assist in 19 game... of its your definition of bring result, we dont have the same... 0.36 pts/game, didn't bring any ki d of physicallity, defensive, blocking shot, avoid hit... a guy who will give you 2 or 3 pts/ game without anything else. Its worst than what galchenyuk gave to leafs against mtl...

As bad as the Captain’s signing was since we had a very capable second line center already the muzzin trade had to be the worst dubas move even worst then the kadri trade in my opinion I feel like we could sure use a durzi right now looked great in the edm series

He better come to camp with a fire under his ass and in the best shape of his life. He looked like garbage throughout the entire season but showed some ability at least by the end of the Tampa series.

If he continues his exponential decline this season, we have to try to dump his remaining two years.

Well that post aged well eh ? JT was already in decline and for all the grief he gets in Long Island he really wasn't going to be offered any kind of package there because they knew what they had , where it was heading and how fast it was going to get there . The only hope know is he gets Tonya Hardinged in the offseason and the league forgives his contract . The JT deal was the turning point that sent this team spiraling down the sewer they are stuck in . No 11 million for JT means no 7 million for Nylander and no 11 million for Mathews and Marner . Imagine how good this team would be with Nylander making 5-5.5 , Mathews and Marner making 7-8 each , thats easily somewhere between 7-10 million in available cap we would have had to add to the supporting cast . JT triggered it all and it was 1 year after Shanny and the management group stood in front of all of us and promised there would be pain , there will be no shortcuts , we will build this team from within to ensure a result of a team that contends every year instead of a one year grasp for the gold ring . So much for their promises eh ? Oh and in case you haven't noticed they missed the grab and landed on their face for the next 4 years , so far .

Bad math. If we don't sign JT, and get the others for 5, 8, and 9, that's $18M in available cap.

Tavares seems like a good guy, I think he's well liked in the team. Unfortunately he doesn't seem to have an extra gear. Not a great skater. Slowing down with age. He has absolutely no physical presence or grit. Seems to vanish in the playoffs as well... Tbh a good guy, though a vastly overrated player.

Maybe you've been out in the sun too long.

No kidding.
Matthews was never making less than Eichel, but I get the gist of the post.
Matthews 11
Marner 9-9.5
Nylander 7

I think the majority of posters here, no matter what side of the fence you are on, could probably agree with this for the most part.
That’s still a 13 million cap to play with. You don’t have to dump Marleau, and you have a ton of flexibility.
3 11 million contracts is crazy.
