Regardless of the specifics of Larsson, Grigorenko, Leino, etc...I see a fault in how Nolan and/or LaFontaine handles the roster.
Wanting vets on the roster and forcing entry-level players to earn ice time is fine, but only as far as those vets actually doing what is required of the rookies. If the vets aren't working hard, practicing and playing with a good attitude, and/or leading and being a good example, why should they get ice time? By playing just vets, including lazy ----s like Leino, is that not setting a bad example and a tone that once you get past your ELC, you can just put your feet up? Doesn't that just say that "hard work" and such only applies to rookies, and shows favoritism to vets - seniority matters more than talent and/or hard work?
I know some of these roster moves are pre-determined by the CBA's guaranteed contracts, but guys can still be sent to Rochester, waivers, or traded. I like making young players earn it, but that approach can go too far and I think Buffalo has a few examples of that. If Murray decides Leino (or Stafford, Sulzer) needs to go, I hope he makes it happen fast.
