Jock Shorts vs. Compression Shorts

Looking for opinions out here

had the yellow bauer jock shorts, one of the straps is now busted so its time for a new investment.

What do you guys think of the 2 options? I've never used compression shorts before, if I do get a pair they would have to have the pouch to put the cup in, or at least come with one already.

Not a big fan of the 2 straps to hold the cup in place like most of the mesh shorts have.

So what's up? Compression shorts? or stick with the mesh shorts?

Any opinions, suggestions, recommendation of products?

Note: This is for ball hockey, NOT ICE!

Well I wear both at the same time ... I believe just about every compression short comes with a cup pocket. I own a couple and they have them.

I wear a farrell 5 pad (for extra protection on the thighs, hips and tailbone) compression short under an Itech regular type cup mesh short with the cup inside the mesh short instead of inside the compression short under it.

AND with the Itech shorts I do not use the leg straps for the cup and let it (the cup not the johnson) hang loose inside the short. It works for me and I have been hit in the gene pool before and it did the job.

Playing in full contact with someone who would spear you in the nads however I would not recommend this.

But for ballhockey ... I do not see why it would be an issue.
 
I like the idea of the compression shorts better, but I bought a pair for ice hockey and followed their sizing on the package and they are too big. If going that route, ask someone who has a brand you are looking at about the sizing.

if going with the mesh short, maybe you could sew in velcro to the short to hold the cup in better ??

personally, not using any hockey shorts right now - went back to garter and cup for the time being.
 
Havent used the WSI, but the Shock Doctor mesh shorts do not have the two straps holding the cup in place.

I wear a compression short without cup underneath a mesh short. I like this the best as I've tried both compression and mesh alone and find the dual method to work best for me.
 
the worst is when you aren't wearing compression shorts (just mesh shorts or a strap), and you turn funny...and get "all caught up".

i forgot my compression shorts one game and just went nakked under the mesh shorts. i was crossing over or something, and one thing dangled where it shouldnt have, and i was in a world of hurt. it felt like a feral cat jumped up between my legs, clamped its claws into my sack, and twisted as hard as it could.
 
i find that cups are more comfortable with the compression shorts. When i use the yellow jock mesh shorts my cup digs into my groin on crossovers
 
I have Bauer mesh shorts with a jill. I have only worn them once but I really like them thus far. The straps holding the jill in place aren't bothersome at all, but perhaps that's because I'm a girl and don't have extra "stuff" in there. :P
 
I have the Bauer loose fit mesh jocks and have had no issues so far.

I looked it over in a local store and the mesh is very thick, seemingly a very well-made product, but didn't buy it due to the much higher cost than the Bauer (19.99 vs. 44.99) and that the waistband is elastic only - no tie string.
 
I wear both, compressions shorts for martial arts sparring, and mesh jock shorts for hockey. The Easton compression shorts are really nice. They are comfortable and the cup goes in or out with little trouble. I don't really care for their cup, so I used one I had.

Next time around I'll probably go with compression shorts for hockey. The tighter fit and thinner waist band would be more comfortable under hockey pants.
