good interview, i think you were pretty stiff with your questions and quite frankly there's not much from his end i disagree with aside from his partylining on the "we're right there" stuff

interesting tiptoeing around that last question which i assume was heavily kaliyev-directed. doesn't quite mesh with what he was saying about needing to effectively communicate with players on their level but he was obviously being very measured with his words

overall i still kinda question how much blake is pulling the strings here but hiller sounds like a smart dude. hopefully they really are on the same page and blake enables him

Just remember guys, Todd sounded like he knew what he was doing too. Ted Bundy was also a smart conversationalist. The proof is in the pudding. 1-3-1 down 2 goals with Lizzo and Lewis out there with 2 mins remaining.

Just setting the stage for the easily influenced.

Great interview Jesse, one of your best IMO. Some nice questions and some great answers.

Yes, he has to deliver (as I’m obviously easily influenced) but I’m not going to be negative because he gave good answers… as opposed to standard or bad answers. :sarcasm:

I listened to this. Feels like the right time to check out. Let’s see how the rest of the summer goes. But I doubt anything good comes after hearing out the brain trust.

It’s time for hard core fans to lower engagement if they wish for meaningful change.

Finally got a chance to listen to it, good interview, He danced around the autonomy question, well not the autonomy...but that whole...spiel, if I wasn't good with it they'd know and I wouldn't be here...basically covering ass on that question....but you can hear the coach in him, that whole, "we were right there" that's a coach/player who has been around the game for years and years and years....he's not talking about the series, he's talking about a sequence of plays that weren't executed....

Thanks for the interview, Jesse. We appreciate you mucking it up with us on the boards.

I felt you asked some good questions. I really liked the identity question and the differences between saying it before being it. There is some fancifulness in their declaration of wanting to be a defensively hard-checking team on a roster of mobile, quick-skating, skillish players who lack toughness.

The autonomy question was spot-on and while Hiller answered it delicately and may have a lot of say in what he does with the team, but obviously there is a committee there and he doesn't have the free reign that say Darryl Sutter would have under Lombardi.

Also, thanks for bringing up "we're right there" phrase. It was nice to get a clarification, though I feel Blake and Luc mean something different than what Hiller describes it as.

I completely agree that we lack grit and toughness but when he’s talking about checking he’s not talking about body checking. ‘Checking’ within the system can be done effectively by any player is they commit to it and the details. We weren’t doing that.

True enough, hopefully they adopt a system that isn't passive and allows them to do that. I mean, essentially that is all the Oilers are doing defensively. They've had success on defense and their powerplay defending a subpar goalie because they are trying to be hyper-aggressive and high checking. Ironically, this can be countered by a team like the Oilers who are skillfully and fast enough to play around it, but so far each of their opponents have failed to perform at countering it. C'mon Dallas >.<
