Jets Upcoming Free Agents

I think this is going to be way more about fit then it is about money, I think the reason why there would be multiple teams is because of the cost
If you're a player, and you can have both, instead of just one? That's not too bad either.

he's made over 100 million in the nhl, he hasn't played in 2 years, this is about coming back and proving he can play and not having his career end after getting sick, if anything having tampa/colorado in the mix should prove that it isn't about the money given their current cap situation

I've seen $2m + bonus thrown around. I think that is likely going to be the cost.
I guess it depends if he actually is still a $2m+ player, we certainly don't need another 2m tied up in a guy who might not even be capable anymore though I am sure if he we pay him that much then the team will have assessed that he is in fact capable.

Maybe you're right

Jets had 4.6M in cap space tied up with Tanev and Appleton. 2M is a low-risk investment in Toews.

Toews should be signing a base contract with bonuses like Corey Perry... equivalent talents and ages - Perry in better game shape

lol at Toews taking a low #

If teams are bidding for his services then he’s going to the highest bidder.

Pretty naive to think he’ll play here at a fraction of the cost he could make elsewhere.

I hope another team like Toronto overpays him and takes the decision out of Chevy’s hands.

lol at thinking that the appeal of toews isn't going to be a low aav with performance bonuses after not playing for 2 years because of sickness...

highest bidder that's why teams like tampa/colorado are in the mix with out having enough cap space and not the ducks/sharks/hawks

and it honestly sounds like the media is trolling with the obligatory "toronto is in the mix" because they always throw them in at the end as an after thought

Toronto is starving for guys with playoff success and high pressure reputations and Toews has it. Treliving isn't exactly an analytics GM. He is a identify what we need and pay what it takes to get it done type.

I'm not saying things will get ridiculous and someone offers 5 mil. But actions speak louder than words, so if someone is offering an extra mil, or an extra year, etc. If it's the difference between getting him or not, only takes one team to say screw it.

toews contract history:
8x10.5 = 84 million
5x6.3 = 31.5 million
3x2.8(elc) = 8.4 million

that is a total of 123.9 million and that's with out endorsements etc, it's been said by multiple insiders he wants to go to the right spot, heck dreger on overdrive said if toews wants to come to winnipeg they will do w/e it takes, think if it was about the money we would have signed him by now

Towes has made over 9 figures in his career, I highly doubt he is going to care much about an extra million or some bonuses, this is all about playing hockey again and from the sounds of it playing for his hometown team to finish the career.

So I don't think it's naive at all to think he will choose Winnipeg if that is what he truly wants to do.

Edit - gojetsgo just beat me to it

If he signs for league minimum plus incentives than I will stand corrected

At this point in his career, I suspect that money (he’s made an astounding $118 million) is likely near the bottom of his priorities.

Jonathan Toews is 100% coming to the Jets. The only things holding it is that they're not allowed to sign him just yet, but not only that they need to get Ehlers, Connor, Lowry, Vilardi, and other expiring contracts settled before coming to an agreement. But from what it looks like it'll be a 1-year $2M with bonuses.
Look at that!

Ended up being higher than I expected, but clearly Toews had some leverage
