After a really shitty year and tumultuous off season so far, I'm a bit tired of all the negativity and hate surrounding the team, players, and staff.

I'd like to be able to pop into a thread where I can share my excitement about the upcoming season.

You may have opinions about a thread like this - and you're entitled to that. However, if it bothers you, you can simply ignore it and never think of it again 😁

Tell me what gets you excited about the next 12 months with this team!

I’m excited for the PLD press conference.
I also want to see how he plays this season. See how the new coaches work out. See who else we might sign. i think it’ll be an interesting year, may turn out poorly but whatever

Yeah, I juat want to get behind this team and cheer. I also expect there will be many players wanting to prove the naysayers wrong.

I expect Ehlers to break 100 points this year... And KFC to win the Rocket... And Helleboy gets the Vezina...

At the very least, if we get some decent systems in place and Bowness words and actions line up, we'll see a deep playoff run. No reason we can't with proper deployment. I expect to see a much more focused team.

I think everyone's expectations are low right now, meaning that we will all be pleasantly surprised this season.

There's no doubt this group underachieved last season. If they just don't do that, they should make the playoffs.

What I'm most excited about is seeing if Bowness can structure some defense to take the pressure off helle. Cutting shot attempts by 1/4 would keep him so much fresher.

Anyway, can't be worse than last year

I think my pessimism and low expectations have been well-stated across here and other places across the internet, so let me post something to the contrary: in the opening 4 weeks of the season, if the Jets manage to win 7+ of their 11 games - even if it's with subpar underlying metrics and on the back of outstanding shooting and goaltending or whatever - it'll go a long way in building some confidence and belief in Bowness and his coaching staff, and "the vibes of the locker room", that will erase all the bad juju that they ended last season with and has carried into the offseason. Getting the Jets best players to buy-in early is likely to go a long, long way.

Now, of course, there's a real tough 5-game gauntlet near the beginning of the season that starts in COL and ends vs TOR and STL at home, but if they can hold through that, then November is an easier month with a lot of rest in-between games that gives the coaching staff time to make tweaks to get them from "just managing to win" to "building good habits that will win games more often than not".

For some players, it'll be their last hurrah. For others, it'll be their first opportunity to prove what they can do contrary to what the previous staff tried to peg them as. Finally, particularly vocal players on the team will be speaking the truth when they say "everyone and the media doubted us". Hopefully they put it all together and give fans something optimistic to cheer for.

Honestly if we shit the bed this year there’s a generational talent at the top of the draft and a number of real good players in the top 10. That’s a positive.

So either we make the playoffs or get an A prospect, can’t complain either way.

Also, the KFC 50 watch should be on this year.

In my humble opinion, I feel we have underestimated the circumstances that have surrounded the Jets these past few years and it reached a peak last season. The Jets struggled with COVID (as all NHL teams had), a coach clearly influenced by mental fatigue, another key coach trying to deal with serious family issues in another country, a BRUTAL winter (and being sick with COVID while in the midst of a blizzard filled winter AIN'T fun!) with a number of these players clearly influenced by the post COVID fatigue during this BRUTAL winter. It isn't easy. I think the locker room shenanagins are probably over blown although there is likely some fire with the smoke. I think we still have players that are passionate about the game and are prepared to give it their best in the coming season. We lost some pieces that hurt (Comrie comes to mind) and like some of the more undesirable teams in all sports, we have our share of disgruntled players looking to get out. But we also have a fairly good core with Ehlers, Conner, and Helle. Perfetti will be seeing increased playing time and hopefully we see Lucius sooner than later. Defense may seem lackluster but with the right coaching, I think we'll see a rebound season from Pionk and Schmidt. Morrissey, Demelo and Dillon may not seem sexy but they are serviceable. I believe Bowness will certainly revamp the defensive structure and make substantial improvements. I watched a few Oil Kings games and I'm surprised Lauer didn't attract a lot of NHL attention. He runs an inventive offensive system and he should have a positive impact with the offensive side of the Jets. What I've heard about Johnston during his Collegiate coaching days is he's an innovator and has attracted some NHL attention. Questions still remain with our bottom six (can they improve production...they'll need to!), our #6 and #7 defenders (though I do like Kovacevic and Capobianco may be a surprise) need to improve. Penalty kill should improve under Arniel and I THINK the power play will also improve. I like Bowness as Jets Head Coach as he will improve the facets of our organization's struggles...that is if the leadership group of Wheeler and Schiefele actually fall in line. Dubois, though to be potentially traded by the TDL, is not as big a jerk as some have suggested in this board although he does have desires to play elsewhere but I don't think his play will be affected by that distraction...unless this carries forward to next year and then watch the sparks fly! The team may have enough to make the playoffs...or maybe I'm just an old fashioned optimist...

We got that desperate overhaul of our coaching staff that was needed. I'm aware this was a lot bar to hurdle and the upgrade may not be by much, but there were problems at the top and we all know that.

Getting the PLD drama tamped down for now is important, and gives us room to retool. Whether that involves moving Wheeler, whether that involves just getting a top D or some good pieces, at least we can look to that.

I have every reason to believe the coach will give the rookies a fair shot -- and by "every reason to believe", I mean "please, Jesus or Buddha or Zeus, ONE of you surely owes me a favor by now!" because I absolutely want to see more Perfetti and more Heinola, among others.

But for now, I can't wait for hockey season to start. So there's that :)

Well, almost positive it couldn't be any worse than last season. I'm disappointed with where the Jets offseason currently is, and really hope they don't just decide to run it back. The only thing I've actually liked about it are the assistant coach hires, if only by virtue of them removing almost every single bit of the coaching staff except for goaltending and Matt Prefontaine. I also like where the prospect pool is trending. Not enough high-end talent there, but there are some good projected middle of the lineup depth. Would really love to see a hit on a few depth draft picks.

Thanks Jet I needed this. I am usually a glass half full type but will admit that was beaten out of me last season.

My list

Love our 1st pick in the draft

Last season I had high expectations and they were obliterated. Yes I am at rock bottom. There is nowhere to go but up for me as a fan.

Like everyone else I want to see what the coaches can do with 55. I DESPERATELY want to write good things about him this season.

I want to see what the coaches can do with the entire team.

I feel Perfetti could have a big season.

I feel like Heinola and Samberg are old enough that they are both ready to carry the water if called on.

Our prospect pool will be more fun to watch again (directionally correct)

I expect a really big season from Hellebuyck. No Covid impacted off season that set his training back, no brand new baby, Boness’s system can’t hurt. I am guessing .923 and Vezina finalist again.

Looking forward to giving this group of players a chance to each look in the mirror and take the individual actions necessary that will put last season behind them. New coaches fresh start. They need to prove the entire hockey world wrong and come together as a team.

I love this. Balanced but positive!

This thread is exactly why @Jet is one of my favorites.

Lots of great posts here. I'd just emphasize how excited I am to see Heinola get an opportunity. Bowness had great success with a couple other young Finnish defenceman. Hopefully he can exploit Heinola's talents. Heinola has a skillset that I love.
