So far I have yet so see any hockey this season outside of highlights and tonight the streak stays alive since I have an outing scheduled. Kids are both REALLY busy so it looks like I will be a part time soldier as far as my Jets Fandome goes again this season.

I wonder if Mäenalanen is playing his way onto the team considering he's getting a look with Lowry-Appleton.

I think they're giving him a real shot - I do think though that Bowness is looking at the first potential call ups and where they might fit if they're called up.

That was probably Morgan Barron's spot to start the season. I don't know what happened to him, maybe a training injury? Harkins got the first look paired with Appleton, and didn't do much, so I think there's a good chance for Mäenalanen to win a spot here, as he's been one of the better defensive players in camp, and you know Lowry's line is defense first.

Tonight I think Gustafsson and Reichel are competing against Toninato and Harkins for that 4th line spot. And Lambert can make a case that he can play against pros, and maybe on the top 6 of the Moose. Him and Reichel are among the best skaters on the team so that will be a good test against a fast paced Oilers team.

The other one for me to watch is Stanley-Schmidt. Last year they were terrible but that was a different coaching style. When the big guy plays mean I think there's something that is valued by the coaching. He's going to have to be excellent on the PK to win a starting spot, but I thought his last game solidified his spot on the team.

Your kids are only young once. Priorities. :thumbu:

He didn't sign only to play in the AHL. Jets didn't sign him only to play in the AHL.
I think there was a mutual hope that he could be an NHL'er from the start.
I think I posted that some time back already.

My autocorrect changed do to don't. I guess my phone thinks I'm negative

I think giving him the number 8 shows him that he's got a real chance at the roster - but I don't always read putting players like that with two players who will be on the roster as some sort of inside track on that roster spot. There will be injuries and call ups so they need to see how some of those call ups will do with those players.

Will PLD manage to finally get his first point of the preseason? Will Evan Polei end the preseason with more points than him? We will see.

Yes, I'm sure they are thinking ahead a bit - though call ups usually consider how they are doing at the time with the Moose too. They will ask Morrison who he thinks is best. But early season call ups will have been decided by TC performance.

Does it matter?

Liane had 0 goals in pre season in rookie year.
Yes an 18 year old rookie playing for the first time on NHL ice, first time against NHL players, in a foreign country, with a different language is the standard we should hold a vet like PLD to.

The character assassination is in mid-season form already. Can't wait for Hellebuyck to let in his first softie of the year too, or for Scheifele to lose a defensive battle.

What character assassination are you talking about? Do you disagree that PLD has a bad preseason so far? We are allowed to critisize him if he is dogging it out there esp considering his track record. Scheifele is handling himself like a professional and has looked great in preseason/camp, no one is critisizing him.

Edit: Those expecting the fans to give PLD grace are kidding themselves, after this summer unless he is giving his absolute best on the ice people are rightfully gonna call him out with little benefit of doubt esp consider his track record in CBJ.

I'm talking about how some posters seem to primarily post about players they don't like for whatever reason. I'm not suggesting "grace" but I think you're being a little hyper focused on him. It's preseason, I think avoiding injury should be the first priority of veteran players who aren't fighting for roster spots.

PLD has looked good in camp, too. PLD has played 2 exhibition games on the road, I think its a little too early to be focusing on his level of play and jumping into questions about his "character", as you've put it.
