Signed a 2 year contract before this year and he will be back for the 2nd year of it. Likely to a brand new team.

Brand new team? Who, from the key guys, will be gone? PLD? Schiefele? Helli? Others?
Which key guys for sure stay? Ehlers? Connors?

Can a Jets fan enlighten me because I'm not too familiar with their team but just as an outsider, Chevy has been the GM for what, almost 15 years now, they have gotten past the 1st round once, the last coach quit, Bowness is known as one of the nicest guys in hockey and he's pissed, Stastny called them out, and now they are going into a critical rebuild phase. Why is he still the GM?

Cuz u know what dude, Winnipeg is the smallest coldest market in the league. Winnipeg up with Buffalo on no trade and no move clauses but during his time here, all in all they been competeitve and went on a nice long run. For the smallest market, he's done alright.

I think the evaluation of Chevy is tough, because the players on the team are a bunch of entitled loser brats but he’s the one who built that team.

The players forced Paul Maurice to quit because of how toxic they were. Does the GM deserve to be fired for adding players to create that kind of atmosphere? But at the same time, the ringleaders of the shitstains on that team have been there forever.

Chevy is still a good GM for the most part. The core he created failed, and that’s not really something you can blame him for. He’s got some top tier players. I can’t identify a move he’s made that’s set Winnipeg back. Most moves he’s made, Winnipeg has arguably come out on top if not just.

Wheeler and leadership failed. The great thing is, they have real good value players that they can trade and recoup solid picks and prospects for, and Chevy/co are great at identifying talent.

Very rarely is failure solely on the players. In this case, it quite simply is.

Their next player moves will be dictated by which 2024 ufas want to stay. PLD is likely out as he didn’t want to sign for term last season. Scheiffle and Helly who are 30 this year are ufa as well in 2024. So they want to stay or go? And does it make sense to keep them? Wheeler is also ufa in 2024. He may have to be moved with retained salary since he’s a $8.25 mill cap for a guy who is 37.

Just speaks to the team's financial woes that they are willingly bringing back a lameduck coach and a failed GM rather than pay the buyout.

Does ANYONE think retaining these two is in any way related to putting the team in the best position to be a Stanley Cup contending team now or in the future? Absolutely not

So isn’t there your answer?

They have the most toxic locker room in the league and he built it and allowed it to continue for years.
Every player on that roster is there because of Chevy

Then that’s 100% his fault. As general manager, it is his responsibility to build a good organization and to keep everyone in line.

If your workplace had a terrible culture due to entitled brats being placed in leadership positions, wouldn’t you blame the upper management for not addressing it?

Jets owner is the 22nd richest person in the world. I think he can manage losing a few dollars on the Jets for a couple of seasons if it would come to that lmao.

Twice, actually. But yeah, the organization sees a playoff appearance as success, regardless of outcome.
With the way Chevy spoke today, I wouldn't be at all surprised to see a total runback of this roster next year. I can see PLD being retained and accepting his QO, straight to UFA. We might see Chibrikov (after a stint with the Moose), and hopefully Perfetti is a go all year. The only trade I see is Chevy honoring Stanley's trade request. We'll probably offer Namestnikov a marginal increase to stay, and hopefully chase a half-decent backup goalie this summer. We need a massive culture change but Chipper has other plans, in addition to another big increase in ticket prices.

This seems overly generous. The Jets had a very small window to compete and it was squandered. He also allowed schism in the lockeroom to fester that still haven't been fully resolved.
