Not sure where you got such a specific number as 98%, but it's not close to that. According to ESPN it's 76.6% since 2013 (

There's also a deeper analysis to look at- of course teams like San Jose, Chicago etc. aren't going to go on some miracle run to make it at this point. I think folks were a lot less surprised when Edmonton (5-12-1 at Thanksgiving last year) made a run. I think the Thanksgiving thing is just a truism that doesn't really have a lot of analytical weight behind it.
Either way, the Preds are in a big hole and I don't think any of us are optimistic at this point. I think it's fair to say EDM, or for that matter NSH last year (also outside looking in at Thanksgiving), both looked better by eye test and underlying numbers than the records indicated. I don't think that's the case for the Preds right now.
