Is Perfetti going to be an important piece of the future? He's running out of time for "he's still young". By next year I don't want to hear any excuses about his age.

I was thinking he got the kick in the pants he needed last year and would come back this year strong but aren't we getting the same Perfetti we saw last year? Started out strong like everyone else but now the production is becoming more sparce as teams are locking down their defensive structure. To be honest that bridge is looking smarter and smarter for the Jets.
Some people who look at those speed stats say he's fast but I just see him late to everywhere he needs to be and does little more than waive his stick around. He does very little defensively to get the puck back. Offensively he has great vision but seems to use it from the perimeter for the most part like much of his game, which has worked well on the PP when he has all day to find some seems. He gets half his points on PP2. I guess you can say it's not fair to judge him without Ehlers but that's just admitting he isn't driving jack shit.

So far I'm seeing a complementary player more than a core piece.
he's a top-10 pick so id wager they'd try to make it work for the future, whether it be core piece or complimentary that's up to his play. Logan Stanley was not a top 10 pick and we're on year 8  :sarcasm:

on his speed -not sure the exact argument folks are making but:
as far as top speed goes (1x occurrence); there is little difference b/w the fwds
as far as how often they use their speed; there is a bigger spread

ie: lambert and perfetti both roughly hit the same top speed 1x, but lambert hits 20+MPH threshold over 3x more often in games. (the NHL tracks 18+ mph, 20+ mph, and 22 mph+ so i chose the middle)

this isn't the be-all-end-all, lots of v good players don't rate well in these stats. but i am seeing perfetti is another case of prospect and young player overhype. some of the comparisons ive seen get made on him over the years are ridiculous. a poster in the previous post-GDT (you can probably guess who) said he'll be like reinhart rather than marner... can we at least get 50 pts before making these declarations?

i think defensively on the wing he's fine. he's not a liability which is imo good enough. but offensively he's been disappointing there's no ways about it. ppl want to shit on mason appleton, namestnikov... yet perfetti getting off scot-free. & fully agree on your line driving comment.

On the contrary, because of children throwing up and being sick in the middle of trying to get them to bed I missed almost the entire game. My disappointment is thick
It happens. Years ago, when it was still a big thing, we were invited to a Super Bowl party thrown by one of the managing partners. Woke up that Sunday to three kids all with flu, spent the afternoon cleaning up barfing kids, woke up the next day the wife and I both had it.

I thought stanley played d and passed as well as heinola and then did what heinola can't,hit and provide an answer if the other team wants to run around.
Fair enough he did fight their big dude but he still struggles in his own end worse than any other dman and that includes Pionk who is an apple turnover machine. The jets need size on the d this Stanley is him

I can't argue any of those points. Except he is signed for next season, which is a pivotal one in his career, his chance to cash out on 5 years of pro hockey, with the fortune of playing on the Moose as an 18 year old. Ehlers is not. And may not be re-signed. As a Jets fan you can't say what one good game translates into the future, but maybe there is more chemistry between Perfetti and Chibrikov than there ever will be with Ehlers. But maybe Cole is a bust, I don't want to write him off any faster than I want to annoint Chibrikov a sure fire top 6 weapon after one game. Still lots of season to play. Get to see them live on Thursday.
I'm not calling him a bust. He's a NHLer for sure. I'm just thinking of him of being more of a complimentary player you put in the right situation rather than the guy you lean on. Obviously I want him to blow the doors off the league next year and get that big contract but I'm beginning to wonder.

I don't know that "the Jets were due to bring" has any basis in reality (cf: Chicago or Nashville being due/overdue for a victory). And I don't know that "getting a nut" today means what you think it means (cf: Princess Bride). But I'm in enthusiastic agreement with everything else you said.

We were reminded why the number one line got that position and how smoothly they can pass and make plays, but it was a night when everyone was skating. When they weren't fighting. The officiating looked pretty good from my couch although they may have a let a few bad hits go on both sides Helle was both on his game and blessed with a lot of in-close luck and our defence was actually up to the challenge. So bring on Vegas!

Edit: Anyone else wishing we could have saved 4-5 of those goals for another game?
Okay, so somebody had to look it up and you had to figure it'd be me. If you type [slang "getting a nut"] into Google it says:

The slang phrase "getting a nut" is a reference to having an orgasm. It can also refer to testicles or the clitoris.

Perfetti is not showing up on the score sheet but he is getting chances hitting the post or just missing the net ... a couple of those go in and the negativity stops.
I see improvement in him heck I even saw him lay a good body check in one of their losses last week. Perfetti took a cheap head shot last night and bounced right back. Imo he just needs chemistry with his linemates which is coming along.
People need to stop looking at the score sheet ... he not a superstar (yet):D but he is a good team player. Remember last year Jets were winning big I think it was 5-0 and with a few seconds left he went down to block a shot from the point to save Helly's shutout. Nobody remembers that but his teammates do and that's all that matters.

Unfortunately it looks like Gus's reemergence into the line up will be short lived.
I was curious about the take on that fight from the Bruins's board. It was mostly utter disgust at what Frederic did. Last night on the Kenny vs Renny post game show, it was Renny who spent about 30 minutes defending Frederic. What a moron.

My assumption / interpretation of Arniel yelling at Sacco was that he felt Sacco sent Frederic after Gus as some sort of old school message or some other nonsense like that. Why else would Frederic target Gus? Unless Gus did something I'm not aware of.

I guess if the Bruins had their heart set on gooning it up a bit, at least they went after the least impactful player on the roster. I like Gus and hope he is ok, and remains a reliable press box extra for the Jets.

If Chibby keeps playing like last night i would put Perfetti in the middle with Ehlers and Chibby. Then you could put Names on the 3rd or 4th but for right now a 8-1 win tells me to just leave it how it is until Ehlers is back.

We had a 23% SH% last night. The guys played well and it was a fun game to watch but we need to not get too carried away. The game before we lost 4-1 to CBJ. Lets see if they can sustain some momentum now.

Chibby's play last night was very encouraging. If he can keep it up I don't think he will go back to the Moose. There will be some tough decisions when the injured players come back.

Chibby deserves to stay up for at least the next two. Vegas has been off all week so maybe they'll come in rusty and we can hit them quick and hard. Like the prime cut today, hooray!

Yeah I hear ya. Back when we had 2 preschoolers the wife was hosting a garden party for her boss and both kids got diarrhea for hours so bad almost ran outta clothes. Nothing you can do about it!

If Chibrikov can maintain this level of play, he could and should push a guy like Barron to the press box. Is Barron waiver eligible (I assume no)?

When the team is "on", they'll tend to have a higher shooting percentage because that's the type of goals they score

Reading the Bruin fans comments on social media after the 8-1 thumping ... ouch.
"The Bruins are a not good team their recent 7-2 streak was all due to their schedule not one win against a playoff team and their 2 losses came against the Canucks 2-0 and the Penguins ... they want Sweeny fired asap". Sounds like the Jets HF after a losing streak. but I have to admit this Bruin team did not look good maybe its just one game or if this is how the play against good teams ... they will be fighting for a WC spot.

Their really both the same kind of player, very bad scoring hands. I think Chiibby would do better on the 3rd line tho, as Nino and Lowry are pretty good players to set him up. Barron has struggled as well this year.
Chibrikov would not be as game impactful on the 4th line, complete agreement. Appleton's game is more 4th liner.

Ok this is funny. I guess I had a Hey Boomer moment

Proverb. even a blind squirrel can find a nut once in a while. A usually unreliable person can be right sometimes, even if it is just by chance.

In my context I got lucky with my prediction that I thought the Jets were going to come out with with energy.

And you kids get off my lawn (wait does that have a different meaning too? :sarcasm::laugh:

I think baron is pushed out first, then its a toss up between apples and iafallo. Baron is not exempt and would get pick up for sure on waivers, with Gus going on IR ( hopefully ), it keeps a spot open
