Maybe but you look at the Jets they have two 31 year old stars starting the 1st year of their 7 year deals.

De Melo is 31 beginning the first year of a 4 year deal.

Morrissey is 29 with 4 years left, and you would think more in the tank.

Nino is 32 with 3 years left.

It will be interesting what kind of contracts Lowry and Namestnikov would re-sign in that 32,33 year old range.

I think it's chemistry with the Preds. Though the Stamkos and Marchessault contracts could easily age out as buyouts after the Johansen retention trade, Turris and Duchene buyouts.
The problem when you start signing a few FAs is team chemistry. If they don’t have it you are screwed.

Well... I liked him in his first year. He owned McDavid in the Canada year. He has been very, very good this year and was stellar tonight, an utter thorn in Pittsburgh's side. But there have been many, many bad games. Recency bias is dandy, but not representative overall. My opinion is ride him for all he's worth, but I'm not inclined to re-sign him at what he'll command.
I see it differently. I think Pionk has brought a lot more than he's been credited for, here.

Yes, he's struggled, he's even been godawful, especially most of last year.

I think that season has tarnished his overall time a a Jet. That's where I see a bit of recency bias about him, here.

As for re-signing him, I wouldn't be crazy about giving him a long term deal, but it's not like the Jets have a plethora of bona fide top 4 RHD waiting to break onto the team.

We might have to sign him longer than ideal and figure out the end of his contract later.

When I realized that was Crosby that Connor knocked down I was pretty surprised.
Sid has major trees for legs.
Reverse hits can be really dangerous and cheap but Kyle's was just about knocking his guy off balance and sealing him from the puck.

Those bad ones usually involve the receiver the hit to get the back of a shoulder, elbow or helmet in the face... not cool.

Connor did land one decent punch so bravo to him.
I would say he did better than any fight I've seen Scheifele in :sarcasm:
Yeah I was surprised about the reverse hit, that's a new wrinkle in Connor's playbook but I didn't think it was particularly egregious or dangerous. I love that Connor is truly in the fight this year, how refreshing.

Josi can play either side, and he`s a former Norris trophy winner, defending runner up. That`s dreaming big, but I`m pretty sure he`s a Predator for life now. HHoF down the road. Also has full no movement clause. Trotz is going to have some cleaning up to do, it`s easy to get guys to play in a tax free state in a city with a good standard of living, but it is not the first time the Preds have had to clean out the locker room after making big signings/acquistions. Something to be said about how you build a team.
I don't care if he is Bobby Orr, he is 34 years old and 35 to start the next season and makes over 9m a season.

Mike McIntyre asking KFC if he knew it was Crosby......lol. Winnipeg sports media is so dumb it's mind boggling.

Did not see the game. Did the Jets look good or did the Pens look bad?

I saw a highlight of the Namestnikov goal and I wondered who taught the Pittsburgh D how to stand there and watch a goal?

Have to agree with this, as I wouldn't want to get into deep water with an expensive Pionk resign. He's been inconsistent as a player, and also on the smaller size, and we have small defensemen already.

Personally I'd trade him off, and look for a younger up and coming defenseman, that is showing promise, who has some size and physicality to his game. At the same time I'd want to see how Salomonssen will work out, and I think he will.

I'd really be careful on resigning Pionk for big term and dollars.

NOTE - I would definitely resign Ehlers, as he's a key weapon in our offensive output ( top 20 in NHL) a great team player, and now that he's used on powerplay #1, I think Nik is an 80 - 90 point per year player.

Agreed. Probably knew he was several years away from a roster spot on the Jets and was looking for an easier opportunity. Too bad for him he isn’t even good enough for that.

He did force a move to a team where he will make the NHL faster if he makes it one day. For now he is still on the outside looking in and I prefer the centre prospect prairie boy we picked up in the trade. At one point I thought Rutger could be an in your face, high compete, Tkachuk lite type power forward and I liked that asset class but that is not Rutger. We don’t need another skilled left winger which is his game, that is the one position on this team we are overflowing with.

Agreed. As we see with Stamkos this year, father time waits for no one. I'm not interested in paying assets for once great players that won't be great moving forward and are cap crippling. We saw one such example last night in Karalsson.

That's one of the benefits of top but long in the tooth FA's not wanting to come here. for every one that can contribute in a meaningful many more cannot.

Ha...ya. Pionk was outstanding tonight.
Agreed. I'm watching the game now with lunch and he's had a great first period.

Watching it now and the Pens' first period was awful. They do push back though, but their defence looks confused.
