One could make the argument that we're beating a dead horse here.

So be it. Discuss, if you so choose. We'll keep all the Swayman talk contained to this thread.

If you have nothing meaningful to contribute to the conversation, move along.

We will not have this devolve into thread hijacking and flaming of other posters.

@Gee Wally

We have numerous deletions and more in here. We know tension and emotions are high.
But you folks must simply stop taking personal shots at each. Stay to topic.

If not we will be left with no choice other than adding thread bans.

Weak ass argument, are you going to tell me that a guy that has scored a 115 goals in the last two years is not worth his contract, your right Mitch Marner would better on this roster.

That's not at all what I said. You said why not spend more money on offense because I noted that the offense shit the bed. I simply pointed out that if our guys who are paid to produce actually produced then the offense wouldn't have been a problem.

Swayman told management he wants to stay here, and the Bruins want him. The Bruins moved Ullmark because Swayman has said as much. It's why I think this whole situation kind of struck a nerve with the Bruins. The Bruins made the adjustments to fit him with the cap they have left while Gross has used the media to negotiate publicly with the Bruins. The public leaks weren't just about contract offers but belittling to the Bruins' credibility and reputation. The Bruins have upped their offers, and Gross and Swayman haven't budged. There's a history of Gross doing this.

Where Swayman gets the blame is if he really wants to be a Bruin, he can't just leave his future up to Gross. He left it up to Gross to negotiatie his contract last year which led to them filing for arbitration. Now we keep hearing how Swayman hated the whole arbitration process. Frederic negotiated his deal with the Bruins just fine prior to arbitration. Just like with Gaudreau (RIP) and Nylander, if he wants to be a Bruin, he needs to step in on the contract discussions.

That's pretty much my point. If/when Swayman fires his agent and makes a deal, we can blame Gross. Until that happens, Swayman is employing him and so you can't really separate the two in this process.

I don’t understand what people are arguing about in this thread. Is $64M not a fair deal for a guy that’s never had a number one workload?

Exactly. Putting aside the blame game of who's feelings got hurt more, who's using the media more, who's lying more, it boils down to one side publicly offered a fair deal while the other side seems content to let this drag on longer. Maybe to work on the particulars of said public offer I hope?

Is the compensation on all offer sheets based on the total money divided by 5 seasons? Or is that only for deals that exceed five?

For example, if Detroit signed Swayman to a one-year $15 million deal today, would the compensation be based on an AAV of 3 or 15?

I am almost 100% sure it's based on the AAV of the deal, so in your case, that would be four 1st round picks from Detroit.

This is the result of not going to arbitration. They could have met beforehand, and there is blame on both sides. The Bruins probably dug in their heels on their offer and Gross/Swayman inversely did the same.

However, there is a reason no sane GM takes their star players to arbitration, and this is it. It's even better the Bruins thought they could do it again and act like Swayman would bow to them and are crying it isn't happening.

For the one millionth time, the Bruins did not take Swayman to arbitration. Going to arbitration was Gross & Swayman's decision.

My thinking was that if the arbitration numbers were less, then Swayman would have accepted the deal they were offering

But now that I think more about it... that makes sense to do as a GM. So now I'm thinking you are right and it's likely that the arbitration numbers were lower, makes more strategic sense. Either Swayman takes your offer and the case isn't heard... or you get halfway between your low arbitration number and Sway's high arbitration number.

You are right
Yeah that's kind of my thought, they know the number will be split down the middle so in all likelihood they chose an arbitration number where what they want Sway signed for is somewhere near the middle

Your definition of an offer isn't the same as a contract.

no, they didnt offer a deal. "64 million reasons" is a comment, not any kind of actual contract offer

Literally could be 8.8m over the cap during the summer. Many versions of this thread ago I showed how they could have given Sway 4.5m without much trouble at all.

I get why they didn't want to: because they didn't have to.

But it was a choice they made.

Is there a 64m contract on the table?
If there is, it’s not far fetched to believe the guy that said he wants to reset the market at McAvoy money won’t accept it. Also reported by Friedman.

I think most people are fine with it and think it's fair, but Swayman may not, and one small group of people are holding back from calling him names and questioning his character.

What people seemingly are ignoring is the fact the offers was mentioned on Monday by Neely as in fact and the Swayman camp is saying this never happened and not happy with Cam lying and making Swayman look awful.

If you believe the insiders some are saying the Bruins went from either 7.5 or 7.8 to 8 per and Swayman is in the high 8's or low 9's.

Day 2 of “go f*** yourself”
Guessing you may change your tune in December after two months of the Korpi/Patera combo?

Headline news: Swayman sad thinking he may not be a Bruins next year

Buried between the garage sales and death notices: Boston only mustered eight goals in the last five contests, contributing to the team's fifth consecutive early playoff exit since it made the Stanley Cup Final in 2019.
Restricted free agent who has just come off being clearly labeled as the number one guy in the playoffs and as the final whistle blows in final PO game he's thinking about how this might be the last time he plays in a Bruins uniform?

I'm beginning to think that Jake DeBrusk was a f***ing vulcan mind meld of emotional strength compared to this guy.

Seriously - even if he thinks this shit, why does he say it out loud?????

It was a comment that was very much a public offer, if we're to believe Gross that it hadn't been offered before. They can work on the particulars later after agreeing on the principle of 8 x 8. Do you think Neely is going to risk losing even more public image by walking back his comment and telling Sweeney to lower it back to 7.5/6.5? I can't.

What's fair is basically irrelevant at this point. It's about how people feel about Swayman and the negotiations as a whole, and whether certain arguments used here are in good or bad faith.
After leaking the lowball offer to Spittin Chicklets it would be pretty weak to cry about what the Bruins did as a reason for turning down a $64 million dollar contract for 132 games played.

Didn’t Swayman leak the Bruins first offer to Spittin Chicklets to use the media for leverage and make the Bruins look bad?

Not sure if that came before or after them leaking that he wanted 10 million per season on the Keefe radio show

Not sure, but if it was me I’d take the $64M instead of sitting out a season and possibly taking less to play for a team like Anaheim. That’s just me though.

We should probably wait three weeks before determining which side is lying.

Maybe Paul Bissonette can help determine it.

Absolutely and it would go over here like hot cakes. All he has to say is "They didn't accept our 'offer', so that's no longer on the table." You are telling me that wouldn't be applauded by fans (based on the reactions of people here)?

Not sure, but if it was me I’d take the $64M instead of sitting out a season and possibly taking less to play for a team like Anaheim. That’s just me though.
If it was me, I'd sign my young franchise goalie and try to get out of the 2nd round of the playoffs.

That's just me though.

Swayman/Gross have been slinging mud at management in the media for months and are surprised they are now defending themselves and throwing a little back at them? Ridiculous. Complaining about the arbitration process, wanting to reset the market, bragging about taking business classes, leaking to Chiclets about being cheap and not returning phone calls. Gross Swayman have TOTALLY mismanged this whole situation.
yep
