Player Discussion Jeremy Swayman II

So Frank Nazar was just on NHL Network with Brian Boyle and Mike Rupp discussing the IIHF tournament the US winning gold ~ Nazar going to be real good player for Chicago

He said they were a close knit group and it was fun meeting and hanging with guys he didn’t know

They asked him if there was one guy he hung out with and really liked. Definitely a bromance

He gave one name - Jeremy Swayman

Said fantastic guy they hung out a lot out to eat, cards ‘Just a great person’

He did add though he sniped him all the time in practice so was surprised he was nails in the games

He’ll rebound next year and be the goalie he’s ever been for the Bruins but last year and steal games and help them make the playoffs and if they meet them, beat the Leafs.

Pasta

Swayman

Enjoy Bruins fans!
I feel like he needs to make peace with the fans (and vice versa) to really get it back.

Swayman said he couldn't go out in Boston because of what he thought people were saying about him. (He's a smart guy, they were definitely saying something.) He said what helped him get his groove back was people being excited to see him over there, people coming up and asking for selfies... that took a weight off his shoulders. He felt like a new man. Etc.

Is he going to feel that way back here? I don't think so. I think there needs to be some kind of, all is forgiven moment.

No forgiveness required from me. I just want to see him play well in goal.

I hear you, and I'm sure that's the case with a lot of folks.

But I do think there was a lot of ill will built up with the fan base. Every time he says something, fans are suspicious. Is he taking shots at my team, kind of stuff. There's a distrust there. I think it's on his side too. He didn't say he heard people saying shit about him, he just felt like they were saying shit about him. There's something there he needs to get over or process... or he's always going to hear those voices.

We can now trade Swayman to Chicago because he has a friend now.

FWIW, I find it difficult to believe that other teams will be interested in Jeremy Swayman and his contract given the season he just had. And if they are interested, the Bruins will likely have to eat a large portion of the deal and take pennies on the dollar in return.

My hope is that last season was a function of the contract saga and missing nearly all of training camp. I don't think he lost the ability to play goalie at a high level overnight at age 26. Let him have a normal summer where he's not obsessing about getting a new deal, and let's see what happens next season. I think there's a fairly reasonable chance that he bounces back into the 15-20 GSAA goalie we know he can be.

Allright, I'll throw it out there. Oettinger for Swayman?

I imagine the Stars would part with DeBoer and keep Oettinger, but both appear that they may benefit from a change in scenery. And it would be the easiest trade in the history of the salary cap as they have identical cap hits.

Boston would have to add and the question is what? Their two 2nd Round picks?

Don't like Sway the person and last year don't like Sway the goalie ....but ... everyone who is a Bruins fan should hope for him to rebound and be integral to the Bruins future success

What terrible thing did Swayman do? Did he kick someone's dog or something?

Worst decision he made was letting his agent use the media for contract negotiations. And then followed that up by sucking ass. Sure he made a few more bucks but now a large portion of the fan base doesn't like him.

And if you trade him for pennies on the dollar to save money and he does rebound, you look like a fool and should be fired.
Who said pennies on the dollar, it has been reported that GMs have been calling about Swayman, I don't know who and exactly what they willing to offer, but I am sure there is interest.

Why? What did he do other than treat a business like it's a business? The fact the fans, with some not so subtle nudging from the bruins management, turned on him the way they did shows you how shitty and stupid they can be. Sway needs to do nothing to make peace with the most petulant babies in this town because he did nothing wrong.

TL;DR: f*** those fans, they're not really fans.

I mean did you blast krejci every day for not "living up" to his contract..swaymans stats are putrid as a starter with his salary. Good back stats the year but no evidence he's a #1 and can handle that duty yet

First, I agree with you.
Second - the bold part. People in Toronto and Canadian city beleives pressure is only there... but Boston is one of the most competitive city in America .... I can see how Swayman felt last year.

No, I blasted Krejci for not putting in an honest effort a lot of nights. Something he readily admitted to doing, btw. His contract or money never entered my criticism of the guy.

As for his numbers, both goalies ended up at the same place, which says it's more about the defense than their play. Expecting your goalie to cover up shitty defensive play night after night never works. You need to fix the actual issue.
