Hey guys first post here. Was wondering what people though of Jeff Petry as a possible but probably unlikely pickup at the deadline or more realistically a signing as a UFA this summer. Recent comments by MacTavish make it seem like Petry will be gone this summer at the latest.

He's a decent skating 27 yo bigger RHD that when not with Andrew Ferrence actually puts up good possession numbers on a bad possession team with low OZone starts. If Viz doesn't come back, might he be a good fit as our third pairing RHD with Hickey. It might give Pulock or Griff more time to develop and could be a good steal on a bigger relative money short term deal.

Petry is one of the few available d-men at the TDL which means he won't be cheap to acquire. While it's no given that he re-signs with the team that acquires him, they are going to want to lock him up long term to maximize the return. We won't be doing that with so many young d-men waiting in the wings.

Seems like a UFA target to me. Same with Franson. D pipeline is decent, but unproven and the bottom pairing games are not immune from finding another home in the NHL.
