Worst thing that could happen to this franchise right now, IF Gorton has been responsible for recent signings and trades. Guy is too good to let go.

Please, please retire Slats.

Please not, that would be the worst team as well. Couldn't the Rangers block a move like with coaches?

I am sure there will be a bunch of people downplaying the importance of this. But this honestly makes my stomach turn.

And I am not saying Gorton is some savior. But by all accounts he is extremely competent, and more importantly there is the fear of what would fill the eventual void.

Just leaves the door more open for JD to come on in here when Sather is finished. Fine with me!

Stay the **** away Lemieux!!!!

I posted about this in the Trade Rumor thread. Scares the **** out of me. JD isn't going anywhere from Columbus imo.

We can only pray that if God willing we win it all that Sather chooses to retire on top. Which I highly doubt will happen.

If the Rangers do win the cup I think Sather would retire.

If they don't win it this year this could get ugly. Sather for years to come and a terrible replacement. Uh oh

Pittsburgh traded away as many assets as the Rangers have the last few seasons. And they need to move a couple of contracts.

He's better off staying here and waiting a year or two, especially when he'll have draft picks after 2015.

Pray for a Cup win. Sather will retire if he wins another Cup. He was involved in eight CF and six SCF between 1983 and 1992 -- eight CF in 10 seasons.

Since 1992, he's only been to two CF in 22 years-- 2012 and 2014 -- and zero SCF.

Would be a huge dick-head move. A team shouldn't ever prevent someone from advancement. I hope they never bring back compensation for losing executives.

Maybe if we win the cup this season, Sather will decide to retire on a high note (didn't he say he wants to retire sooner than later?). That would leave Jeff Gorton to come in and take over.
