Could be. But what is a reasonable salary for a guy who, on a good team, should be a third liner?
Much like with Kreider, will it be worth more for him to take less and stay here where he played his whole career, has trust and value and can be an integral part of a team that will be looking to compete as soon as next year coming out of a rebuild?

I do not think that they can afford go to $3m on him let's put it that way. Will another team? $2m? $2.25m?

$3m should fit fine. They have at least $13m to work with this offseason for ADA, Strome, Fast, & Lemieux. That's if the cap remains the same as this year.
He's not going to get some long term contract, and I think it will be comparable to Hagelin. He's a great utility player that can be flexed anywhere in the lineup in a pinch. Moving him wouldn't be a problem at all if he ends up blocking someone or we need the cap space.

f*** this clown.

For the second time now..
His moves have created nothing but kaos and internal issues since he's taken over..

Coach isn't even fit for the AHL and all the while he'll wait 3 years after the fact to fire him.

This guy's legacy is based off of 2 moves..

Tell me otherwise..

JG.. Only Tom Hanks was much more successful lol

Not sure how anyone can criticize Gorton for what he did today...I really don't. He did what he needed to do and the Rangers are going forward, a better team for what occurred to day.

well, if we forgot everything that led up to today, yeah. There is a history though.

This front office knew what was missing vs Carolina. So they brought back everybody but Fast and Staal back. The home grown power left winger is still not the Captain. We honestly have no idea if he’s a line 1, 2 or 3 player right now.

We had better start seeing some progress IMO. Right now i see a team which, like J.D said “may not be ready to win” but we’re going to pay every veteran we can whether we sink you to line 3, bench you or waive you.

I am with you

Gorton has made a slew of questionable decisions and has been very fortunate to be bailed out more times than not.

Eric Staal trade, not trading Yandle at that deadline, Smith extension, Skjei extension, trading Miller for nothing, signing the worst of Kreider/Hayes/Miller, signing Shattenkirk and wasting a year instead of starting the rebuild with the Stepan trade, not firing AV after the debacle in Ottawa, Howden and Hajek being the main pieces of the McDonagh trade, drafting Andersson, HIRING QUINN.

Yikes. That would be enough to get any GM fired. He just looks good because he was in an impossible to screw up situation by getting a massive headstart on the rebuild by being able to liquidate a roster that was 3 years removed from the SCF, 2 years removed from Game 7 of the ECF, and 2 wins away from going back to the ECF again in 2017.

looking back it truly is remarkable how Gorton didnt hit the nuke button in the 2017 offseason. He made a massive mistake holding onto McDonagh and then found himself boxed in when he had to trade him at the deadline with extremely limited buyers. And had to compete with the best defenseman in the league also on the market.

typical 9 steps forward 10 steps backward GM. Has prospects, assets and cash, but not able to put together a great coaching staffs, not able to capitalize on assets, not able to understand to stop drafting so many Dmen, and so on.

.
My biggest issues with gorton is that he has an awful track record signing FA defensemen. Also hadn’t drafted any legit C prospects

Lmao I was just thinking “gee, that NYR guy has been awfully quiet during all of this”
Never mistake quiet with trying to come up with content for “Gorton is a cancer” quote. Given enough time, most half wits will attain a new level of stupidity
