HF Habs: Montreal Canadiens Hockey Ops - Part 3

I'll never understand the HuGo haters, they did such a great job and this is only the beginning. They are the best thing to happen to this this in a loooooooong time.
Especially when the team is incrementally getting better. I get there's no 2nd line C but at least they tried with Dach. I'll understand if they were like MB and sat on their ass for first 4-5 years. There is nothing suggesting they won't try again this off-season.

The comparisons with WSH was made all series but one thing that's been overlooked is that they had a very busy summer/season adding 8 new players over the year. I don't want the management to be too reactive as a result of the loss. The biggest holes are on RD and #2C, the rest will sort itself out.

Washington also made a lot of gambles, most of which paid off big time. There seems to be sentiment among fans on here that they don't want management to make gambles, they want them to pay for big names who have strong recent track records.

That is true. Chychrun / Thompson / Dubois were all swings but at modest price all things considered. They also made some mistakes, imo they expected more out of Mangiapane this regular season. They also paid big to patch some unfilled holes (Eller and Beauvillier)

Best move Geoff Molson have made
Yeah, after waiting too long to move on from Bergevin, he really did well choosing his Head of hockey operations.

In an interview, Geoff Molson said it was Gary Betman of all people who actually recommended Gorton to him. I really don't like a lot about Betman, his personality, his greed, his turning his back to international competition, and so much missed hockey due to lockouts, but I have a small soft spot for him just for recommending Gorton to Molson.

Can the league keep their hands off our man?

I could get it if it's a straight up promotion, but asking to talk to him just to offer him a similar position elsewhere is trashy.
Didn't Martin leave a GM spot to become our Head Coach?

I don't think there's anything wrong/trashy with teams being interested in talking to Gorton, taking a GM job while technically a demotion but would allow Gorton to be much more hands on. No idea if that's something Gorton wants but if he does it makes sense for him to consider those type of opportunities.

In the end if Gorton is happy with us then it doesn't matter if other teams are interested or talk to him.

Does Gorton even do anything or does he just flaunt his massive fist in the war room like king pin
Hughes answers to him, so he has a say in every decisions.
I seems to remember that they also use the one with the best relationship with the other teams for trade discussions and that Gorton focus more on the drafting/scouting side, while Hughes is on the day-to-day stuff.

You're right of course, and you don't really want to have somebody around who wants to go elsewhere anyway.

It was more tongue in cheek. Calling it trashy was unfair. Still, usually teams ask about guys that are either clearly moving on or undervalued in their org.

I think Gorton is a perfect counter balance to Hughes and it would suck to lose him. Glad he's all in.

Kent Hughes answers to Jeff Gorton. I'm pretty sure he has a say in all the movement we make
Gorton also mentioned in the press conference yesterday how he's heavily involved in the draft so he would have liked to have gotten more picks at the deadline.

Because there's recognition around the league that we are building something special and some of the credit for that goes to Gorton.
Oh I get it, but why the conceit to always ask for him?
Why would he want to leave?
I just find it strange, he's several team's first call ...
he's in a great position here...are there whispers he wants out for the right opportunity ?
