Will give Laval some help defensively, I hope they pair him with Mailloux. He's still just 22 so he has time to figure things out but I also railed against them calling him up so quickly and would have left him in Laval for at least a full year to work on his offensive game. I said I thought he would play in the NHL but that I never really believed in his offensive game, at NU he would skate the puck up ice into the zone but it almost never led to points.

Frankly, Laval's defence, without Trudeau and Jacobs, is abysmally immobile. Strubble, will immediately become the Rocket's most mobile defenceman, and take pressure off Engstrom. This was a very progressive move that is good for the player, Laval and the organization. If nothing else, it gives Montreal an opportunity to showcase Strubble as the trade deadline nears.

it is a smart move, I hated how they rushed him and others to the NHL so quickly, I long for the days of when kids would go to the AHL for 2-3 years before sniffing the NHL.

No team do that. It doesn't exist but in the mind of some fans. Star players very rarely spend more than half a year in the AHL. Elite player very rarely more than a year. Depth and middle six players will usually play a few games a year starting in their 2nd AHL season until they graduate. Outside of 4th line players NHL players cooking in the AHL for 3 years without seeing any NHL games is the exception more than the norm.

For example Protas and McMichael two guys some fans would say cooked in the AHL because they are 23 and are having their first successful year at the NHL level. But Protas at 19 spent a full year in the KHL and then after the KHL season played a few AHL games. After that when he was 20 he spent half the year in the AHL and half the year in the NHL. Then at 21 he spent 3/4 of the year in the NHL and a few games in the AHL. Then at 22 he spent a full year in the NHL as a depth player. Pretty much the same for McMichael at 19 he played a NHL games and the rest in the AHL. At 20 he played a full NHL season as a depth player. Then at 21 went back to the AHL but played 9 NHL games. Then at 22 played a depth role in a full NHL season again. Caps are doing the same with Handrix Lapierre. Played a full AHL season the first year but then a mix of some NHL games and some AHL games in his 2nd and 3rd season.

The cooking thing simply does not exist. Outside of the first year after that you want kids to have a glance at the NHL every year so you and himself can evaluate where he is at in his development. Only delusional fans think you can evaluate NHL readiness while playing in the AHL. You don't have to face McDavid in the AHL you can grossly dominate that league without being a NHL player at all. The AHL is probably the most overrated hockey league by fans. It's not that great.

Also Struble played 4 years of NCAA. He's older than Guhle.

The slow purge of once overhyped prospects by the Bozovin cheerleaders continues.

Glad to see

Overhyped? Most comments I remember are depth defenseman. I don't think the majority of our herd ever thought he would be some top 4D stud. Are you saying we overhyped him as a bottom pairing guy?

He needs playing time. That's all this is.

which is total bull shit as the league was forced to change due to the salary cap era. If you listened to Ramage over the summer he talked about how they were forced due to injuries to rush these kids to the NHL and how this year they hoped not to have to do that or something to that effect.

Before the cap, it was standard to see 20 year olds to the the AHL for 2-3 years before sniffing the NHL.
