Since there is now a CJ discussion thread, figured Jaro deserved his own.
He is killing it right now. In goalies who have played at least 10 games, he is 16th in the league in GAA (2.42) and 14th in the league is S% (.918). That is literally right behind guys like Jonathan Quick, Carey Price, Tuuka Rask and Ben Bishop. He has stepped up his game big time this month. Granted the team has been much better, but I believe he has now played 3-4 games this month with a S% above .950? I think it's safe to say he's righted the ship and recovered from a very sub-par October.

he's starting to settle in nicely. he wasn't the greatest thru the first 10 games, and a lot of us we were freaking out, but he's a slow starter apparently. I think if he started the game in pittsburg the outcome would have been similar to tonights outcome. He's given the team a chance to win in every start he's made since the west coast road trip.

He has played a lot better the last three weeks or so. The big story however is how much better our defense is this year! After watching the porous calamity that was last year it has taken a while to get used to the fact that we are so much better. Obviously Boychuck and Leddy have a lot to do with it but everyone else has played really well not named Strait.

Any coincidence that this was when Visnovsky and deHaan replaced Strait and Reinhart? Also it takes time when changing teams to get used to how the players around you see things. That being said things are looking up for now

He is starting to become more comfortable with the team.
He played around the same number of games with NY as he had with Washington. His numbers are pretty similar. The guys consistent every team he has been on.
I noticed he's prone to allowing an easy goals every couple of games or so.
I don't mind the soft ones as long as he continues to win. He is playing as advertised exactly how most Blues fans described him. His arrow is trending upward which makes sense.
We can definetly win with Halak in net.

He's been doing enough to get things done, and that's all you can ask for from your goalie. Very happy with him.

Was looking forward to DiPietro on hockey night live last night. He starts out ok, then they go into the highlights and show Malkin's goal making it 1-0. Trautwig asks DP, "so what happened here Rick"? He replies, "Hate to say it but that is a soft goal. He has been leaky all season and that could wind up hurting the Islanders"... that's not word for word, by memory but that was the jist, and I'm kind of laughing to myself with how Jaro has played lately.

Lost a little respect for his new job of analyst/broadcasting. Had he said, "Halak started slowly but has really come on of late, helping the Isles go 8-1 in their past 9, things are finally settling in on the island"... But no. Sour grapes and envy from RDP, too bad.

That goal was a bit weak. But after that Halak was pretty dominant. Unlike earlier in the season, I feel extremely confident with him in goal. Add in the fact that the Isles have a good offense, and they can overcome leads, that's a recipe for success. Even Lundqvist and Quick give up bad goals.

His save % right now is .918. His career save % is .918. This is the goalie we have. Occasionally great, occasionally poor, but consistently better than average. He is good enough to win with, not good enough to carry the team. But that should be fine with the rest of the roster.

now that the early season woes are over I am good with Jaro. If he is a 9.10 - 9.20 goalie that is perfectly fine and what we signed up for.

top 10 in nhl goalie stats

Jaro is in top 10 now, there is a good chance he can be in top 5 by the end of the season.

Friedman posted his numbers for this month on Twitter:

7-1
1.35 GAA
.950 SV%

WOW, awesome. And I was one of the guys panicking early in the season, boy was I wrong (as usual). So great to see. Now we need Chad Johnson to play like that for a while, don't have that trust factor with him just yet.

Said it from the start... Defence settles, he settles. We were winning but conceding three per game. D got better, Jaro got better. Confidence is everything.

Still find it insane that the Oilers fired their goalie coach over anyone else. Like they are the big problem.

It was nice to see Halak the other night venture outside the crease to play the puck and go 'huh, that's odd the goalie coming out that far...haven't seen that in awhile' ... As the goaltending settles down and the team is winning...

Coming out is not an issue for Jaro :)

Halak...11-4-0...3 SO; 2,20 GAA; .923% (career 155- 89-29...33 SO; 2,37 GAA; .918%)
Quick...11-4-4...2 SO; 2,22 GAA; .932% (career 186-121-37...33 SO; 2,28 GAA; .914%)
Price....13-4-1...2 SO; 2,35 GAA; .922% (career 192-141-45...27 SO; 2,51 GAA; .917%)

meanwhile, two of these three are considered "elite" ...guess which one :handclap:

Halak's stats are incredibly good the last month or so but how is he by the eyeball test? Haven't been able to watch too many islanders games lately.

he has been fantastic...only low 20s games into the season and is on pace for his best stats season to date..and this is after a slow start

The islanders have the make up of a team that needs solid goaltending. We don't need a Lundqvist night in and night out, but better than what we have had.

Discussed many times last year is how much better off the islanders would have finished in the standings had they had legit net minding.

So far, Halak has given the Islanders better than solid. I would put Halak in the top five discussion if not, then surely top ten.
