GM Don Sweeney not satisfied with team’s performance

Some talk about moving first round picks being something Sweeney is open to. Or at least I believe that's what he's alluding to at the end of the article. If he moves them it can't be for a rental. It has to be for the now and the future.
“All teams go through injuries,†said Sweeney, referring to the ailments that have sidelined David Krejci (upper body) and Adam McQuaid (concussion). “I think it gives you the ability to assess players that may or may not be capable of filling holes, whether or not they can step up and replace those players. This represents one of those segments.â€

“It’s not systematic, for the most part,†Sweeney said. “A lot of the breakdowns have been self-inflicted. Those are the things we need to clean up. That’s part of the evaluation thing. We’re in a critical period of time here. If guys can’t get it done, then shame on me for identifying them as such that they might be able to. Then we’ll have to look elsewhere.â€

“If it’s the right piece, I’m going to present it to Cam [Neely] and the ownership group and say, ‘This is what I think we should do,’ †Sweeney said. “They’ve been supportive in that regard. Hopefully they’ll continue to do that. But I know I’m not going to leverage things to the point of putting ourselves in a bad situation going forward.â€
It definitely feels like he wants this team to make the playoffs and will make the necessary moves to do so.

Kind of interesting though - and I don't mean this to be disparaging of Sweeney - but the article talks about the Bruins' needs being a top line RW and D.

Isn't that exactly what the team needed at the beginning of last season?

So we've made progress on addressing the cap situation and restocking the prospect cupboard - both good and important accomplishments - but the team on the ice still has the same holes it did during Chiarelli's last season.

Now, obviously there was some expectation that Pasta might continue to develop into that RW, but even considering his time missed due to injuries, he seemed to be having a bit of a sophomore slump this season. I'm sure he'll be that player eventually, but it still leaves the team with those two significant holes.

It''ll be interesting to see what DS does to address this.

I'd be fine with sticking with what we got in the forward squad, but I think he needs to make a move to shore up the D by adding a legit top 4... somehow.
